Cask at Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford. Pours a golden yellow with a small white head and good lacing. Nose is vague hints of citrus and grass. In the mouth the texture is quite watery, but is made up for by the range of flavours. Floral hops, lemon, and tangerine – quite a lot of berry fruits too. Finish is bitter with grapefruit traces. This has good a good bite to it – nice.

Cask in Bull & Stirrup, Chester Pours a golden yellow with a small white head and good lacing. A nose of floral hops and lemongrass. Hops dominate in the mouth, with some lemon and a hint of orange. The overall effect is somewhat sharp though. Finish is dry and bitter with a hint of lemon. To me, the hoppiness makes it more like a session IPA than a golden ale. Anyway, it’s quite nice.

Cask at Gate House (JDW), half-pint after breakfast. Filmy layer, close-to-clear amber-gold. Moderate smell of ripe citrus. Leafy hops and lemon to the taste buds, malty sweetness beneath. Ends with a quite nice dry bitter touch. Quite alright. (Doncaster 31.01.2020).
