Description
In 2013, Oakwell Brewery of Barnsley, announced their closure. Oakwell’s legendary Barnsley Bitter faced extinction, along with 120 years of brewing heritage.

Motivated by a desire to ensure that the production of Oakwell’s famous Barnsley Bitter could continue, Barnsley boys Tom & Adam rescued the brewing equipment from Oakwell and set about recreating the much loved beer.

A site in Sheffield was selected as the home of the new brewery. Known as the ‘Brewing Capital of England’, the city’s proximity to the Peak District gives access to the purest water - perfect for brewing. The 22.5 barrel kit was carefully transported to the new location and painstakingly reassembled under the direction of Chief Engineer, Tim.

Stancill Brewery was ready to brew.

Production commenced in January 2014 with a revival of the historic Barnsley Bitter, true to the original recipe. Led by Head Brewer Dean, our brewery team work hard to ensure that the legacy continues to this day.

Cask. Closed Shop, Sheffield. As Stancill India. Quid a half! Ruby tinged, chestnut brown. Thick, nitro like, cream coloured head. Gotta love a sparkler. Nose has spicy, nutty malts. Some leafy hop. Hint of dark fruit. Taste has some vine fruit sweetness. Earthy, leafy bitterness. Light body with a creamy mouthfeel. More leafy bitterness to finish.
