Description
Our story starts with three home-brewers by the names of Ken, Bob and Nick, whose love of beer led them to venture further into the world of brewing. In 2006 Magpie brewery found it’s nesting place, sheltered beneath the County ground, and hours of brewing (and tasting!) commenced. Fast forward to 2017 and the brewery was upgraded from a 6 barrel plant to 20 barrels per brew!

Magpie certainly isn’t the fledgling it once was, with the addition of three pubs, Crafty Crow, Barrel Drop and Doctor’s Orders, where you can experience our great ales and the best of independent brews from near and far. In 2019 The Crafty Warehouse bottle shop and taproom were established next to the brewhouse, where you can buy directly from the brewery or stop for a pint. If you’re a true magpie, remember to check our social media for information on pre-match drinks!

Despite our evolution from 2006, ultimately Magpie began with a passion for beer and a love of the craft, and that’s something that we’ve maintained. We aim to bring you the finest beer, made from the finest ingredients – no shortcuts, no compromises.

Handpull cask at the Ilson Tap, Ilkeston. Light gold, clear and lively with a drothy white head. Light lemon aroma, grassy notes, boiled sweet. Tastes sweet with a grapefruit hop coming in mid-sip but never overpowering. While it's a nice, drinkable enough golden, it doesn't have a lot of character. Not the best of Magpie's beers.
