Description
Shiny was established in 2012, as a small scale operation, brewing in Derby mainly for its brew pub. Now based in the beautiful village of Little Eaton, just outside of Derby. The brewery is based in the centre of the village and has a taproom which features all Shiny’s new beers and one off pilots. Our beer story began with untraditional highly hopped cask beer and now has evolved into brewing a range of cask, keg and cans, the ethos is still the same brew beers we love to drink which means lots of hops! All beers are unfined and a good number of our core range is certified Gluten Free.

Gravity cask at the Little Ale House, Bromsgrove. Mid-gold, clear with a loose ring of white head and a good bit of lacing. Orange peel aroma with a strong whiff of ammonia. Tastes sweet with a medicinal tinge, more ammonia here. Nice hoppy bitterness to the long finish. Oily, flat body. Drinkable but far from Shiny's best.

Cask at Hogshead, Wolverhampton Pours pretty much completely black with a small beige head. Chocolate and liquorice in the nose. Sweet and creamy in the mouth with the strongest taste being damsons, and some hops in the background. A slightly bitter finish to round things off. Pleasant enough, but doesn’t pull any trees up.

Third, keg, shared with Finn at Queens Crafthouse. Misty pale golden body, patchy white head, fair lacing. Inviting floral nose, hints of tropical fruits. Citrus flavours, impact of grapefruit and a touch of lime. Drying end with a little fruity bitterness. Pretty alright. (Doncaster 28.01.2020).

Handpull cask at the Thorn Three, Ripley. Golden and clear with a small white head. Light aroma of grapefruit and gooseberry. Improved taste with a malt-led sweetness followed by a gentle fruity hop and a balanced finish. Light carbonation. Not so much to this one, but it's enjoyable.

Keg at Mad Squirrel, Wycombe. Cloudy yellow-gold with a white head. Light grapefruit, pineapple and grass with a mineral hint in the finish. It's a little muted but it's ok.

Bottle at Beer Dock, Crewe. Barrel aged in bourbon barrels. Nose is strongly cocoa, plus alcoholic strength. Pours completely black with a very dark brown transient head. In the mouth the alcohol is to the fore, but there is also cocoa, chocolate and hints of chilli. Finish is boozy with a warming glow ! One for sipping slowly methinks.

Keg @ That Beer Place, Chester. Pours misty gold, frothy white head. Excellent vanilla coming through on the nose. Taste is wonderfully balanced, lovely prominent vanilla with a good hop bitterness, light leafy mosaic pine underneath. Good stuff from Shiny.
