Description
Maxim Brewery began full production in Houghton le Spring in 2007.

To brew the best beers possible requires the best brewery equipment available. Our 20 barrel brewery equipment was previously at the Canongate Brewery on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh’s historic Old Town. This was Scottish & Newcastle’s pilot brew house and as you would expect, was built to a very high specification. Indeed, it remains probably the best equipment of its size anywhere in the UK today. Our flexible Brewery with its special Lautering system allows us to brew between 3,000 and 17,000 pints per day and importantly ensures that we can maintain the highest quality and guarantee a regular supply of cask, keg and bottled beers to the drinkers of the North East and beyond.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol 16/10/2022. Golden in colour, with a thin, white, head. Leafy hops, tangerine and apricot fruit, a touch of hay and a moderately bitter finish. Fine.

Half-pint, festival cask ale at S.Fowler & Co (JDW). Shared with Finn. Clear warm golden body, spotty lacing from a film-type layer. Moderate hop fruity taste of grass and peaches. Peachy flavours joined by leafy hops, and bread-like malts. Rounded ending with a distant bitter twist. Fair enough. (Ryde, IoW, 20.10.2022).

Cask at Bull & Stirrup, Chester. Pours a golden amber with a small off-white head and good lacing. The nose is just some vague tropical fruits. In the mouth it starts off with floral hops and tropical fruits, before becoming more distinctly ibtter with some hints of citrus. Finish is bitter and slightly dry. It’s OK – nothing to write home about.

Cask @ Regal Moon, Rochdale. Wetherspoon 2022 Autumn Beer Festival Ale. Golden with a creamy head. Nice and hoppy with peach evident in both aroma and taste, providing some sweetness, with a late bitter finish.

[Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading.] A slightly hazy pale amber pour with a tight white head; peach aroma; a pleasant stony peach taste; and a dry lingering peach finish. I'm a big fan of peachy flavours, so I thought this was excellent.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol 3 August 2022. Deep brown in colour with a thin, off-white, head. Brown sugar, red berries and prunes, bready malts, a hint of spice and green herbs, leading to a rich and vaguely boozy finish. Enjoyable.

Cask at Hamilton Hall (Spoons), Liverpool Street, London. A dark ruby/brown coloured pour with a healthy creamy off white head on top. Sweet, malty, caramel, dark fruit taste and aroma. Really nice ale but served way too warm on a very hot afternoon in London.
