Bottle courtesy of Beerandblues2, thanks! Pretty much black with an extremely dark variegated brown head with good retention and solid lacing. Aroma of chcolate covered Toosie Pops, licorice, burnt espresso. Taste is rich and roasty bitter cocoa and coffee. Nice.

Bottle - thanks RJ5020. I get to be rater #10 on this beer :). Pours deeeep opaque black with a medium dark brown creamy head that dissipates with nice lacing. One of the darkest heads I have yet to see on any impy. Aroma is roasty, almost burned, coffee, chocolate. Flavor is the same, minimal sweetness, medium bitterness. Notes of coffee, cigarettes, anise, burned things. Tongue coatingly creamy and full bodied. Some warming on the finish. If you like your impys sweet, scroll past, but if you love rich, creamy and bitter, this is your beer.

Can. Pours clear black with a large tan head, creamy with nice lacing. Aroma is dark roasted malts, coffee, cocoa powder. Flavor is the same, lactic acid, cigarettes, lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Medium body and creamy mouthfeel. Pretty good.

12 oz. bottle got from Phatdog1. Color is a deep black with huge soapy tan head. Nose is lactose sugar up front with nice roasted notes underneath. Get flavors in this stout. Chocolate and roasted malt with notes of coffee in the background. Lactose sugar makes it taste like coffee and cream. Medium in body leaning on the lighter side. Perhaps a bit to light. Yet, overall this is a tasty brew. Glad to have tried it.

Can at 12 South Taproom. Opaque brown-black color with a thick light brown head that dissipates slowly. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, chocolate and coffee. Light-bodied with flavors of roasted coffee, sweet malt and dark chocolate. The finish is roasty with a coffee and malt aftertaste. Decent all around.

Bottle at RBWG. Pours clear copper with a mellow, tan foam head. Dry earth, toasty malts and light herbs in the nose. Medium to big sweet flavor, some dry toast, berries, earthy and lightly piney bitterness. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lightly warming finish, some dry caramel, berries. Simple to finish but good overall. Nice bitterness, good balance.

Bottle as shown shared at RBWG 2013. Pours a clear amber with no head. Aroma is strong booze and caramel. Medium mouthfeel with a strong Roast and oak with nice boozey finish. Good barleywine from Straight to Ale.

Can. Pours clear amber with a medium white head that dissipates with nice lacing. Aroma is caramel, spruce, floral. Flavor is medium sweet, almost candylike; perhaps cotton candy? Definitely floral notes as well, with medium bitterness. Very odd, but not necessarily bad. Medium body.

Bottle. Vinous malt, earthy herbal, and alcohol aroma. Viscous hazy amber with a minimal ivory head. Sticky sweet caramel malt, earthy, fruity, sweet orange hops, and big boozy flavor. Full sticky body. The whole thing is just a little too cloyingly sweet for my taste.

On tap at the Nook. Pours pale gold with a thin, white head. The aroma is hay, cereals, resin, and pine sap. The flavor is candy sweetness and a significant hop bitterness. The palate is medium to heavy, sticky, chewy, and a little acidic. Overall, this is a fair pale ale, but lacks the complexity and the yeast profile of a good saison.
