Description
We produce a range of cask and bottle conditioned “real ales” from ingredients sourced as locally as possible. All of our recipes use whole leaf English hops mainly from Herefordshire and Worcestershire. The fermentation yeast is “wet” reducing the amount of waste yeast from each brew and allowing the strain to develop its own distinctive characteristics. Our spent grains, the remains of the malted barley after mashing, are collected by a local farmer and fed to his cattle. Our beers can be found in pubs, shops and restaurants in Plymouth, West Devon, the South Hams, Torbay and Cornwall who are passionate about local produce. The brewery was founded in 1983 by Adam Summerskill and has been here in Plymstock since 1985.

500ml bottle from The Cider Press, Dartington. Pours a lifeless dark brown with no head. Aromas & tastes of caramel, toffee & roasted malt. Moderate body. Sweet malty light bitter finish. Disappointing especially in the lifeless appearance with 4 months left before BB date

500ml bottle from The Shops At Dartington. Pours a red/brown clear lifeless liquid with no head. Aromas & tastes of red fruits, caramel, vinegar & malt. Moderate body. Sour vinegar fruity finish. Verging on undrinkable, very disappointing & 2 of 2 bottles so far, I've opened that have been lifeless, so an issue with the conditioning

500ml bottle from the shops at Dartington. Pours light brown with a white head that lasts. Aromas & tastes of fruits, caramel, hops & malt. Moderate body. Light bitter finish. Enjoyable and much better than expected as the previous 2 bottles have been lifeless

Another very disappointing bottle from this brewery, from Cider Press in Dartington. BB - 01/04/23. Pours a clear medium brown with a small amount of life & head that disappears quick. Aromas & tastes malt and hints of dark fruits. Medium body. Malty finish. Drinkable but I'd like to try on cask next time as bottle conditioning is not up to much.

Cask at The Square Peg, Birmingham. Light misty gold with small white top. There are notes of citrus, apricot, cereals, pine and pepper. Quite a bitter finish. Slick body, semi-drying. Kept in good condition this one, I enjoyed it.

500ml bottle from Dart's Farm: BBE June 2024, poured into a UK pint sized vase shaped glass at home on 23rd February 2024, beer number three in a mini tasting with myself and no one else! Oh dear, came out the bottle and it looks a bit sad, slight haze to the brown/mahogany body, wisp for a head, smells like it's been 'skunked in the sun', tastes like it's been 'skunked in the sun', think it might have been on display in the sun or at least bright lights before being put back in the rack for sale. This is not the first time I've had beers in 'shit' condition from Dart's Farm to be honest. When I've finished writing this I'm revisiting my review of the place and downgrading my score!

Pours a clear amber colour with a small white head that quickly disappeared. The aroma is grainy, malt and light fruit, grape and berries. A moderately sweet taste, sweet malts, white grape and citrus flavours with a bitter finish.

Cask @ Boot Inn, Burnley. Golden with a creamy head. Golden styled ale with a pleasant enough hoppy-sweet character, but nothing more to say about it.
