bottle, pours an amber with a quickly dissapating head. Aroma is raisin, clove, and carmel malt. Flavor is rich with sweet dark sugars and malts, applesauce, green raisins and not a trace of the 9.5%. Awesome

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of fonefan. Pours a clear reddish amber wiith a huge pinkish head. Tart aroma with the black currant shining through. Surprisingly light body, tart and dry black currant fruitiness. Ends dry also. 021009

Bottle, 75cl corked. A hazy, orange beer with a small, white head. As expected, there’s also lots of floaties. Citrus, white sugar and a nice hoppyness in the aroma. There’s also a strange herbal note there, that I don’t like, but fortunately only a note. Bitter flavor with white sugar and notes of leather, leading to a dry, bitter finish. Medium body with appropriate carbonation. A quite nice beer, nothing special. 090724

Bottle. A murky brown pour with large beige head. Lovely complex fruity aroma. Beautifully balanced Belgian beer tasting of dark fruit, caramel, figs, very rich. A quality Belgian beer which I drink whenever I can.

Draught. Hazy yellow brown, aroma of flowers and yeast. Bitter throughout, could be better balanced. Nice enough.

dark brow some yeast floaties, large smooth thick light brown head. faint fruity, very subdued aroma, a bit flowery or soapy. flavor is fantastic. loads of different notes which are blended so well together that the initial impression is some sort of WOW experience, it takes some concentration to single out all the flavors. raisins, licorice, several kinds of sugar, candi, brown. honey, ripe grapes, very faint cocoa, very faint vanilla like note, alc very well hidden, it doesn’t come off as too strong or even alc strong, just lots of interesting flavor. spicy notes are here, but hidden below the main flavors, this works real well.

pours orange with loads and loads of yeast sediments and particles. as i opened the beer it foamed up, and a lot of the sediment rose to the top. small white head. yellow fruity aroma, also quite dry. flavor is fresh fruity, dry, alc can be tasted, peach, citrus, indeed like a very powerfull witbier. i wonder why rocs beers always have SO much sediment. it’s insane. anyway, definetly one of the best witbier i’ve tasted.

33cl bottle at home, from ølbutikken. came out of the bottle to greet me, but not faster than i could pour it into the glass in a controlled manner. unclear brown wth plenty of small particles, even though i tried to pour really carefully, small brown head. As usual with abbaye des rocks, giant pile of sediment at the bottom of the bottle. initial aroma impression is spices and funk, hints of something similar to th leathery notes in cantillion, which i quite didn’t expect. warming up i get mouldy and dark fruity, some caramel, and sweetness, The leather impression disappears. aroma is complex and promising. flavor is well balanced, licorice, faint dark fruits, cardemom, spices, dark caramel, faint roasted grains (coffee? tobacco?). this is very good. a dry not too sweet ever slightly roasted version of a spicy christmas beer. You’d never guess it was as strong as 9%.. (2005-12-07) 75cl bottle from ølbutikken.judging by looks the beer has changed big time, appears clear to slightly hazy brown, no floaties and a smooth head. Also the beer opened like a macro, no spillage , no gushing. Aroma is cellary, yeasty, malty, nutty, sort of like a dry belgian quad , missing the dried dark fruits usually in those, however i do get a little apple and figs, but it is faint. Flavor is clean, belgian yeasty, malty, very slightly fruity, notes of alc. not as wild as i remember it, perhaps they changed something. flavor style reminds me of leffe brune, only more alc. and a little more complex flavor. Still very tasty though, and a lot more easy drinking than the old one, but i would by far prefer the one i tasted in 2009 to this one.
