Description
The oldest surviving brewery in Lancashire founded by Daniel Thwaites started brewing in 1807 based on Syke Street, Blackburn. A new modern brewery was built in 1966. In 2014, they entered into an agreement with Marstons that resulted in much of the beer being brewed by Marstons in Wolverhampton. In 2015, Wainright and Lancaster Bomber were sold to Marston. In 2015 we made the decision to reinvigorate our brewery, we wanted to return to our old ways and take pride in every beer we have our name on. This led to our new craft brewery being built at the foot of the Ribble Valley. Opened in 2018, our small team of brewers created our delicious beers by hand using the latest equipment, a step away from automation and mass production.
Today, Thwaites still produces beer but it in much smaller quantities as it only sells to its own estate of pubs, inns and hotels, which it brews from its Ribble Valley brewery.

500ml bottle from Booths. Pours dark brown with a short-lived off-white head. Aromas of caramel, light nuttiness, fruit. Taste is light sweet, light chocolate. Sweet finish. Better on cask. --- Beer merged from original tick of Dark Mild / Dark (Filtered) on 07 May 2019 at 12:19 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7. 33cl bottle of Crafty Dan Lil’ Bewdy from Morrisons, Bracknell. Pale amber with a loose white head; fresh citrusy hop aroma; rather soapy in the mouth with a pleasant tropical fruit taste with a light bready body; and then a very fruity finish. Rather good.

Bottle. Darkish golden beer with a strong white head. The aroma is well hopped with yeastiness, and the flavour is very dryly hopped with some malty undertone. Overall a nice well hopped and strongly flavoured bitter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

(As Crafy Dan 13 guns, in a can.) Clear, reddish-amber beer with a thin head and a hoppy, zesty smell. Flavour is basically what you’d expect. Sharp, hoppy lemmon with a touch of sweetness to lend it some balance. Pleasingly dry finish. Very drinkable.

33cl Can from Beer Boutique, as Crafty Dan 13 Guns. Clear copper colour, white head. Aroma of caramel, some citrus hops, light metallic, hint of grass, light floral. Flavour is medium sweet, caramel, resin, citrus, light metallic, decent bitter finish with some aluminium. Light bodied. Decent, and good value as well.
