Description
The oldest surviving brewery in Lancashire founded by Daniel Thwaites started brewing in 1807 based on Syke Street, Blackburn. A new modern brewery was built in 1966. In 2014, they entered into an agreement with Marstons that resulted in much of the beer being brewed by Marstons in Wolverhampton. In 2015, Wainright and Lancaster Bomber were sold to Marston. In 2015 we made the decision to reinvigorate our brewery, we wanted to return to our old ways and take pride in every beer we have our name on. This led to our new craft brewery being built at the foot of the Ribble Valley. Opened in 2018, our small team of brewers created our delicious beers by hand using the latest equipment, a step away from automation and mass production.
Today, Thwaites still produces beer but it in much smaller quantities as it only sells to its own estate of pubs, inns and hotels, which it brews from its Ribble Valley brewery.

Clitheroe Beer Festival 2024. Darker glowing amber coloured. A little softer tasting and hoppy than you might expect from this style, and this strength, which it doesn't feel like. There is however a winter warmer feeling, subtle fruits to enjoy and a slightly darker malt taste.

Half-pint, gravicask, shared with Finn at The International Brewing & Cider Festival 2024. Scattered lacing from a low, beige head, clear mahogany body. Fair on the nose with mid-sweet malts and some berry skins. Fine blended taste of berry-fruits, nuts, and mild caramel malts. Rounded bittersweet tail. Clean. Decent English bitter version. (Manchester, 23.03.2024).

Not pulling up any trees by any stretch, but a decent enough thirst quencher - pours a clear amber (eventually) with a creamy white head, malty and slightly fruity on the nose, bitingly cold so flavourless to begin with but fruity malts come through with old school floral hop bitterness.

Bottled. Deep goldeny amber colour with a smal white head. Aroma is green apple skins, some bready and biscuity tones as well as mild herbs. Flavour is wooden, some bready, biscuity and mild doughy notes with a slight bit of caramel to it.

Brown beer with a small, frothy white head and a somewhat malty aroma, with just a hint of fruit. Light bodied, on the bland side with some fruit malt, toffee sweetness and hop bitterness going on, but all a bit messy.
