Pours a dark amber/light brown with a nice frothy head. Aroma is quite pleasant and dominated by blueberry, maybe a little caramel in the background. Something about the flavor doesn’t work for me. It is strange in that the blueberry flavor is a nice addition, but the malt flavoring doesn’t seem quite right for the fruit that it goes with. That said, it is much better than I would have guessed.

Pour is a deep and dark red with almost no head. Aroma is very nice! Lots of roasted chocolate to go around. Flavor is a tastes like plum and raisin juice with a roasted backbone. Smells good, tastes good, I like it!

2004 bottle. Light fiery red color, decent beige colored head. Very clear. Not much of a smell, a bit of caramel and barley, maybe a touch of hops. Flavor is quite dry, grains, and a bit of caramel malt. Hops are mildly sharp on the finish. Tastes like mineral water and body is medium-light with a firm carbonation. No real complexity. I’m not seein the smoked malts, nor does the brewer mention them. This just tastes like an average amber ale.

Red brown ale with malty nutty nose with some tartness. Roasted malt and nuts come out but there is some tartness which is a bit misplaced. Sharp hops come in the end. Medium body.

Slightly hazy golden beer with little head. Herbous almost lemon (like lemon cough drops) aroma. Very tart but limited malts or hops. The lemony taste is very present but not overpowering. Lacks body (but that may be better for such a tart beer). Not bad, but not a repeat.

Bottled. I see a wide spectrum of opinion on this, but I'm going toward the negative side. Pours an almost nonexistent head on an amberish body with a slight blue tinge. Has a light ale taste, but the blueberries taste like syrup, or more precisely, cough syrup, with a "processed" aspect. I've got other bottles, so I'll try it again, but this just didn't sit right with me. Beer should make you feel happy.
2nd Bottle. I want to try it again, since I was slightly under the weather the first time, but I see no real improvement. Blueberries, when not amped by sugar in a syrup, have a very subtle flavor, and they just piled on the juice to make the blueberry stand out at the expense of the beer taste. A better balance might improve this, but I'm supposing the general public would prefer a big fruity taste, equivalent to, say, a Zima.

Light amber colour. Very candyish, artifical aroma and palate. Cloying, one-dimensional cough syrup.

Dark brown colour which is slightly opaque, but clearer at the bottom (as usual). A nice dense tan head. Faint aroma of roasted malt and coffee notes. The flavour is very nutty and somewhat choolatey as well. The taste is very watery and light-bodied. The aftertaste doesn't last long and is pretty mild compared to the initial taste. I don't think i've had many beers of this style, but this seems like an adequate representation of it. Nothing special here though, in my opinion.

Amber tint to a golden colour. Small amount of head which died down very quickly. Very large bubbles rising from the bottom and sides of the glass at a dizzying pace. A normal smelling ale with hints of malt and a little hops. Taste is a bit malty and a tad hoppy at the end. I don't taste the herbal qualities much, perhaps a little bit. If you threw this side by side with a Sam Adams Boston Lager, I probably couldn't tell the difference. Not a bad beer though.

Ratebeer back online? If you say so...this ale tasted like Clearly Canadian. I suppose that could be a good thing if I were rating soda, but this was supposedly an ale. If you want an alcoholic soda water, go for it. If not, stick with a real ale.
