IMG_0063-300x293Over a period of nine months and with a lot of hard work, John and his father Geoffrey converted the handsome water tower, in which the brewery is now based.
Steeped in brewing history and known as Walsitch Maltings, the tower was built in the 1870s by Thomas Salt & Co Ltd., and later in 1927 owned by Burton brewers Bass & Co.
With the conversion finished and the building returned to its former heritage, production began on 10th April 2001.

Cask at The George Inn, Belper Derbyshire 14-07-09 Pours amber in colour, the head disappeared before I could take notes. Creamy vanilla and fudge abound in this surprisingly tasty beer for the abv. Soft in the mouth with a gentle bitterness, this is reasonable little session beer. A6 A4 F6 P3 Ov13 3.2

Cask handpull The Castle, London. Advertised on a type written unbranded pump clip as a traditional IPA. Copper, thin white head. Oh dear, this isn’t good either. Some butter toffee, some vague spritzey hop on finish. Aroma is terrible, a chemical edge to it. Thinnish in mouth. Finish has a bit of a buttery tingle to it. Poor.

Cask-conditioned at the Wellington, Birmingham 21/1/09. Near black in colour with reddish tones and a decent, lacy tan head. Big aroma of bitter chocolate, dark fruits and roasted malts. Flavour was much the same, with a long dry finish. Very drinkable.

Cask Conditioned at Market Porter, London, 4% ABV
Muddy deep blond color. Light aroma, earthy, light manure. Malty flavor, with a light grainy touch, some pleasant sweetness, light cookies, correct bitterness, quite good hopping. Good.

Cask conditioned at FFTMC, Oxford 24-05-08 Glorious light golden colour stunningly clear, thin white head. Taste is malty and honey and good depth of flavour, this beer punches well above its weight as drunk side by side with the Naylors Sunset you would have thought this was far, far stronger. Very enjoyable, I would imagine that after a pint or two this might become just a bit cloying, but there was some good fruitiness albeit quite honey laden, nice beer.

Cask at the Kings Arms Beer Festival, Kidlington, Oxon 28-03-08 Gold with a slightly orangey warm glow and quite stunning transparency. A lovely citrusness, (tangerines maybe?) There is something else which Loz, Barry, Lynn and I couldn’t quite put our fingers on. Citrus continues to zip around quite juicy, a very nice beer.
