2012 Colorado Mead Tasting at Armin’s house. Huge thanks to Stephen to getting this bottle! Pours a deep red purple, red wine appearance with no head. Rich thick jammy, black currant, huge raspberry, seedy, spicy berry, thick fruity aroma. Delicious, full and fresh black raspberry, mild pear/apple, chocolate, juicy, juicy tart cherry, just a touch syrupy flavor that’s just bursting full of fruit. Absolutely delicious. I am a bit surprised about how overwhelmed I was by the flavor in this baby. Unbelievable how delicious the fruits are in this. The finest mead I’ve ever had for sure.

Colorado mead tasting 2012 - viscous pour - dark reddish purple - the nose is unreal - bursting with currant and black cherry aromas - sweet, but with a lovely earthiness and tartness to balance - loads of fruit skin tannins - I could smell this all night - smooth, silky mouthfeel - wow - just wow - ineffably good - words will not do this justice - the fruit adds both depth of sweetness and a balancing acidity - cherry adds the sweetness while the currants add the tartness - tart and quite vinous through the middle - finish is all raspberry - just...dude - this is the mead to end all meads - the end.

Colorado mead tasting 2012 - clear apple juice color - pretty mellow nose - mostly strawberry, but it almost smells artificial, like strawberry syrup - I also swear I smell some lightly plasticy phenols way in the back - flavor is much sweeter than the aroma suggests, but has a decent acidity to balance - tastes like a medium sweet white wine - a bit of spice and alcohol warmth through the middle and finish - strawberry is subtle in the beer, and in the finish, it tastes more like tart cranberry - subtle flavor, but nice - much better than the nose suggests.

2012 Colorado Mead Tasting at Armin’s house. Pours a clear, light pink appearance with no head. Super rich, seedy, strawberry jam aroma that smells very delicious. Somewhat sweet, strawberry shortcake, light pear, sweet dessert flavor. Kind of a cool mead.

Bottle thanks to Kyle! Pours a clear deep amber with no head whatsoever. Aroma has a good amount of coffee with a nice honey note and a hint of barrel underlying. Flavor starts with sweet honey and a bit of BCS with a nice growing coffee note that melds well with the BCS note.

Bottle on Amtrak Train 27 - The Empire Builder ( from Binny’s South Loop) - 04/11/12. Very pale yellow with a thin white head that clears to the edges and forms a small pond. Nose comprises honey and piss, light citrus, farm like, touch of horse. Tastes of sweet sugars, herbs, medicinal qualities, honey, strepsils. Medium bodied with limited carbonation leading to a sweet acrid finish. Meh ! I will admit I have only had a few meads in my time and none for a good few years but this tasted nothing like them.

Bottle from Charles St. Liquors.
Baby Duvel tulip. Soggy cork. A shot of CO2 glad to be out.
Looks sort of like iced tea. A bit orange. A bit dull.
Smell is a fairy authentic cup of coffee. Unburnt roast, nuts, cream soda, & significant citrus rind. Fumy.
Taste-wise, the sweet, citric/floral mead comes in first, & then comes a subtler coffee flavor then the nose proudly proclaimed. Ice coffee & cream sweetener. Something like hazelnut. Faint oxidation. Leather & smoke. Really, really sweet. Earthy, mildly acidic finish. A lingering bitterness. Doesn’t really all work.
A bit syrupy when cool. It lingers on the tongue somewhat. Not too thick though. Flashes of alcohol.
I can sort of appreciate the quality coffee that went into this, but wow, this gives me such a headache.

Bottle. My very first mead. Pours clear pinkish yellow with no head. Aroma is white wine, cherry, apple, honey. Flavor is about the same, quite sweet with very nice apple and cherry notes and a sweet honey finish. I like this.

375 mL bottle from Oak Tree Buy Rite. Pours a clear red-brown color. No head, average legs. Intense cherry pie aroma, spicy chipotles and a background of faintly sweet honey. The taste is tart cherries, cherry pie filling, honey and a lingering chipotle spice. Medium bodied, lingering heat. Nice mead, but, it could be a little more mead-like.

Half liter bottle. Pours a VERY pale yellow color with a medium sized fizzy white head. Fades quickly. Aroma of spicy hops, sweet honey in the background and an almost toasty note. The taste is sweet honey, banana, bitter herbal hop finish. Medium bodied, slight tannins. Interesting, but not really my thing.
