Near black with a lasting, creamy off-white head. Aroma of dark malts, licorice, saaz hops and a hint of DMS. Medium dry, malty, well hopped flavour, leading to a roasty finish. Creamy soft mouthfeel and a fabulous balance and drinkability.

Sample at the Eurostash tasting on 04/30/09: Bottle from the brewpub. The beer is a hazy golden-amber color with a medium thick and foamy bone white head that diminishes slowly. Sticky patches of lacing on the glass. Caramel malt aroma with notes of floral hops. Medium body with sweet caramel malt flavor offset by resiny and floral hops. The finish is malty with a sweetness left over. Above average overall.

On draught at the brewpub. The beer is a nearly opaque dark brown color with a medium beige head that dissipates slowly. Small patches of lacing. Roasted malt aroma with notes of coffee and hops. Medium body with a roasty character and flavors of malt, coffee and dark chocolate. Light hops are present at times too. The finish is roasty with a lingering malty aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

On draught at the brewpub. The beer is a mostly clear orange-yellow color with a medium foamy off-white head that burns away steadily. Patches of lacing on the glass. Spicy Saaz hops aroma with notes of citrus and bready malt. Light, clean body with flavors of spiced hops, bready malts and orange rinds. The finish is fruity with a lingering Saaz hops aftertaste. Enjoyable from start to finish. When you see monks from the monastary across the street coming in to order something it must be good.

on tap at the brewery, pours dark brown, almost black, with a tall light tan head. Very light roasted malt nose, had to search to find it. Dark malt, milf chocolate, and coffee flavors ends with more coffee lingering with light spice. A great dark beer.

on tap at the brewery, pours light amber, tall off white head. Soft hoppy nose. Sweet carmel, and assertive hoppyness in the finish. Well rounded and refreshing. Paired extremely well with the spicy goulash.

Bottled. A dark brown beer with a huge brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel and straw. The flavor is sweet with notes of malty and straw as well as lighter notes of caramel, the caramel though gains in strength towards the finish, leading to a dry bitter finish. Thanks to my friend Kristian for bringing this home for Christmas.

On tap @ the brewpub. Clear amber colour, white head. Light fruity aroma with hop notes. Flavour is sharp, bitter, pilsnerlike with a little fruitiness. Too harsh.
