Description
In 1994 Nino Bacelle decides - after a lot of experimental brews - that he is ready to bring his own beer to the market. It’s the start of Brewery Nino Bacelle. In 1995 Nino meets Guido Devos through the beer tasters association HOP. Guido is a founding member of HOP and has been active as an amateur brewer for years. Nino and Guido decide to pool resources and knowledge and hereby “Brewery Nino Bacelle“ turns into Brewery De Ranke. This name refers to the vines on which the main ingredient for beer grows: hops. The beers are brewed at the Deca Brewery

In 2005, after 11 years of brewing at Brewery Deca, Nino and Guido decide to start their own brewery in Dottenijs.

Reviewed from notes.
Bottle to chalice
Appearance: dark amber color with a thin cap of a little eggshell white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: Belgian candied dark fruits, banana, vanilla, light Belgian yeastiness; lemon, wet grains and a touch of honey
Flavor: meshes the prior noted aromas to a fine Belgian sweet to slightly spicy quality; finishes Belgian sweet & semi-spicy
Texture: medium bodied, leaning towards being a sipper; nice smoothness with that "back-of-the-throat" Belgian grip; light dryness
Overall: I dig this one and would definitely welcome it again!

Bottle. Yearly must have. 6th year in a row now. Color: Slightly hazy golden, large frothy white head. Aroma: Floral and grassy hop, malty. Taste: Malt, some hay, nice grassy and floral hopbitterness coming in after a second or two. Spicy and light yeasty hints. Bread notes. Nice very long lasting very dry and bitter finish. Bitter palate. Just over medium body, average carbonation. Starting moderate sweet and moderate bitter, going to over medium bitterness at the finish. Very nice, like every year before!

2025 bottle. Pours a deep, partially hazy red; gets just a few carbonation bubbles that disappear instantly. A surprisingly quite subdued (and also a bit undefined) aroma: a soft, wet wood like base, maybe with a dough like hint to it, light fruity notes (more raspberry than cherries actually), hints of lactic sourness. More pronounced sourness (and a bit more vividness) in taste: mainly lactic, and slightly soft-feeling, as the smell suggested, still backed up by a good amount of sweetness. Notes as per aroma; again, i get more raspberries than cherries. Still a slightly unclean/undefined taste, but the beer finds a good overall sweet/sour balance. Medium body, very light carbonation with a hint of fizziness to bring a bit of liveliness; feels mostly slick on the overall. Maybe an unlucky bottle, but what i had was no more than a decent/mediocre sour.

0.75l bottle, shared with Ogi at Ambasada. Clearish dark amber body really (unless you dump the yeast shot in), off-white, thick big head. Fun aroma, caramel, orange candy, floral and herbal notes. Remarkably uninspired taste then - bit herbal and floral, hoppy, some phenols, light maltiness, bitterish finish, a bit limp. Okay, had better De Ranke beers.

Sampled from bottle at home. Yellow color, small white head. Aroma and flavor are malts, typical Belgian hop aroma, lightly green hops, a little bit of a dusty edge, decently bitter. As expected.
