Description
In 1994 Nino Bacelle decides - after a lot of experimental brews - that he is ready to bring his own beer to the market. It’s the start of Brewery Nino Bacelle. In 1995 Nino meets Guido Devos through the beer tasters association HOP. Guido is a founding member of HOP and has been active as an amateur brewer for years. Nino and Guido decide to pool resources and knowledge and hereby “Brewery Nino Bacelle“ turns into Brewery De Ranke. This name refers to the vines on which the main ingredient for beer grows: hops. The beers are brewed at the Deca Brewery

In 2005, after 11 years of brewing at Brewery Deca, Nino and Guido decide to start their own brewery in Dottenijs.

Mycket gott

Pours jet black or almost so, though with a reddish hint if seen through light. Low to medium sized head, of a surprisingly clean white colour for such a dark beer. Decent retention, nice lacing. Not much intensity in an aroma that suggest a very dry beer: a very lightly perceptible roasted malts base, with just a hint of coffee and unsweetened dark chocolate, strong leafy hops (bitter tea-like leafiness), pretty much nothing else. More intensity in taste, indeed VERY dry. Barely perceptible roasted malts notes (as per aroma), dominant dry hoppiness, some leafy tea-like notes to it but mainly just a neutral bitterness flavour wise. A clean, well defined and rather intense taste, but a very unbalanced one; i get bitter and dry, but this is almost nothing more than just that, with flavours muted down by excessive dryness. Light to medium bodied, light to medium carbonation, rather smooth in mouthfeel with a hint of soft creaminess (though, again, a quite good mouthfeel cannot shine against such a dominant feeling). Overall: still drinkable, it's not a spoiled beer and i actually got slightly used to it by the last sips, but very muted down in all the elements that make a porter/stout pleasurable.

On tap at Moeder Lambic Fontainas, pours a clear golden with a medium beige head. Aroma has a nice spicy Belgian yeast character, bready malt, and floral hops. Flavour is bitter and bright, with lots of floral, bitter hops, bready malt, and spicy Belgian yeast. Bitter, spicy, and floral finish. Perfect balance. Excellent.

Aromas are dark malt, roast, Belgian yeast and candy sugar. Flavors are similar to nose, fairly mild with sweet slightly dominating. Add in a touch of metallic and mineral. A bit chalky. While good and not great, still very drinkable.

0.75l bottle. Orange body with practically no head. Aroma of sugar syrup, grapefruit, wood, grapes and a hint of vinegar. Taste of sugar syrup, lemon zest, grapefruit, wood, salt and some vinegar. Mostly sour, but the finish has some bitterness to it. Very nice.

Opalescent orange to bright amber colour, minimal off-white lacing; aroma of woody, lemon zesty, some acetone, earthy, unripe fruity and yeasty notes; taste is similar to the aroma with some slight salty notes and bittery aftertaste; great one; many thanks for sharing, Kapusil!

Bottle, 5.5%. Mostly lagery aroma, perhaps with a touch of acid, but does not smell funky. Hazy dark golden colour. Good stable white head. The flavour is quite bitter and quite yeasty with a hint of fruit. Not so complex, but ok. 636314 / 6 6 6 6 7
