Description
It was in 1943 that the history of the Fournier family and of cider began. On the southern borders of Normandy, in the land of the Dukes of Alençon, the reliefs offer landscapes of solid hills interspersed with green valleys. Apple and pear trees bloom on the hillsides stretched out in the sun.

It is in this environment that Cidres Fournier cultivates their orchards of tall apple trees. The selected fruit varieties favor quality over yield. This is the spirit that drives Fournier Ciders in its development and the qualitative control of its growth: love of the land, orchards, fruit and a well-made product.

In 1996 company registration. Rocation of the premises of the distillery activity of M.Fernand in Saint Pierre des Nids for reasons of exploitation rights by the SARL Fournier Frères. chaired by Messrs Jean-Pierre and Fernand Fournier. The successful association of two brothers with complementary skills, especially after several years of training in the cider industry, creation and development of the range of cider products in bottles

In 2013 extension of orchards, +10 hectares planted. Creation of the Fournier brand.

Many thanks to McTapps for this sample! Smooth sweetish apples, fresh, nice moderate tannins, easy to drink. The fresh and intense apples are nice and sweet, not too sugary, highly drinkable with a deep and nice tannin-aftertaste. Nice!

(Bottle labelled as Cidre de Normandie Artisanal Brut by Fournier Freres of LaCelle) Clear golden with small white head. Aroma is pleasant - mainly apples with some barnyard and leather hints. Light body with plentiful loose carbonation. Taste is mainly apples, but not sweet. Overall, easy drinking and pleasant.

75 cl bottle @ home
Aroma has overripe apples, leathery notes and some menthol. Flavour has sweetish and rather floury apples. Also hints of menthol and apple juice. Very dry and leathery palate. Unusual, could be better if apples were not this ripe (or of another variety.)

33 cl bottle (4,8%) @ home, no BBE info
Leathery aroma with somewhat floury apples and some pear tones. Flavour has rather sweet and intensive pear, some floury apples and a glueish feeling. A bit too sweet and aggressive to be truly enjoyable.

33 cl bottle @ home, no BBE info. Thanks laiti!
Aroma is quite stale with somewhat floury apples, earthy notes and distant leathery notes. Flavour is quite dry with leathery notes, some overripe apples. Quite exceptional vanilla notes in the finish. Thin palate. A bit straightforward, needs more apples, sourness or something. Not bad anyway.

Bottled (thanks laiti!). Same label as comm.desc. on RB, although the year is changed to 2011 and the EAN code has a slight alteration too (added to infos on this cider). Golden colour with a small white head that vanishes quickly. Aroma is funky, sour/tart apples, some vanilla and mild sweetness. Flavour is vanilla, quite sharp apples as well as some tart wooden notes. Rather crisp and biting carbonation.

750 ml green "champagne" bottle (a gift), as Fournier Frères Poiré. ABV is 2.5%. Very pale straw coloured, pours very fizzy with a large white head that soon disappears completely. Moderate aroma of sweet pears and drier perry pear varieties. The flavour is sweet and very fruity, pears of course, but also notes of sweet apples. A hint of oak and sulphites in the finish. Quite refreshing when cold.

Bottle in the basque restaurant Chez Gardines, on the corner of Rue des 5 Diamants and Rue Jonas :-) Fine hay and green apple aroma. Green golden, champagne bubbles. Citric, green apple and light horseblanket. Dry mouthfeel, sparkly. Apple fermenting retronasal. Nice subtle cider.

Corked bottle, from Auchan, La Defense, Paris
Hazy deep blond color. Nice aroma of apple and apple peel, ripe fruits. Semi sweet feeling (not a Brut), with some good apple flavor, light astringency, a bit more tannic in the end. Pleasant.
