Sample at Blackrocks. Pours a light gold with aromas of... Umm... Lavender. Kind of a medicinal edge to them. Flavor is more of the same. Kind of a honey sweetness with an edgy lavender finish. The lavender is kind of bristly.

Can. Aromas of caramel and pine with a very pronounced rye punch on the first sip. It’s rye heavy even for the style. Nice.

Can. Oh boy! I waited on this and shared with a good friend. I even said \"I haven’t ever had a Blackrocks beer let me down\" (or something like that.) This one let me down. On a porter??!! Seriously??!! So there is something with the aroma and palate that I can only describe as silo corn... My buddy agreed... He asked \"what’s that weird thing I get?\" and I said \"corn... silo corn\" and he went \"damn... that’s it.\" I’m not sure I understand what the hell it all means, but this particular can had a corny edge to it and it wasn’t appreciated. That said, I can’t believe the rating I’m throwing down considering all the other loveliness that Blackrocks has made... so there will be a revision in the future.

Can. Lovely mint and chocolate nose over a stouty looking body and head. Flavor has a lot of earthy chocolate and leather with a mint presence that takes over late. Very pleasant and well balanced.

12 ounce can into lager glass; no can dating, but is a recent release. Pours slightly hazy golden straw color with a 1-2 finger dense and fluffy white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of lemon, orange zest, cracker, bread, light honey, light pepper, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance of pale malt and citrus/earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of lemon, orange zest, cracker, bread, light honey, light pepper, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine/herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, orange, cracker, bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice robustness and balance of pale malt and citrus/earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from bitterness as well. Very clean on lager flavors with zero yeast ester notes present. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly grainy/bready/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent German Pilsner style! All around great robustness and balance of pale malt and citrus/earthy hop flavors; and very smooth, crisp, and clean to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

12 ounce can into tulip glass; no can dating, but is a recent release. Pours slightly hazy deep ruby red color with a 2 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Dense soapy lacing clings around the glass. Awesome appearance. Aromas of big tangerine, pineapple, grapefruit, peach, mango, melon, papaya, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, brown sugar, spicy rye, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tangerine, pineapple, grapefruit, peach, mango, melon, papaya, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, brown sugar, spicy rye, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus rind/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of tangerine, pineapple, grapefruit, peach, mango, melon, papaya, lemon/orange peel, pine, caramel, brown sugar, spicy rye, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitterness that increases through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth and moderately sticky/creamy/bready balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an outstanding rye IPA! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A highly enjoyable offering.

12 ounce can. Pours a dark brown color with a small white head. A nice toast and licorice nose. The flavor is roast, dark fruit, caramel, light mint and chocolate. Quite nice. Smooth. Very drinkable. The mint is pretty pronounced in the finish. Flavorful. Solid.
