Description
In 2010, David and Andy were looking down the barrel of economic downsizing in their industry. Looking at it as an opportunity instead of a problem, the two set out to take their basement hobby to a new level. The dream of all home-brewers; to go "legit" and open a commercial brewery, presented itself as a once in a lifetime opportunity. The two agreed upon a Nano Brewery (1 BBL brewhouse). Although they were hopeful it would be well received, they had no idea the amount of interest the locals had for craft beers. Along the way they found and hired on some awesome people to bring the brewery altogether. Blackrocks still brews beer at the original pub on 3rd St, as well as a 20 BBL production system in Marquette. two key ideas fuel Blackrocks on a day to day basis, always make the best beer possible and always have fun while doing it.

Can poured to shaker. Nice, medium head lasting just long enough. Dark brown, persistent carbonation. Sweet, dark chocolate and coconut dominant on initial taste, then I got just sweet coconut. Felt good on the palate, but I didn't enjoy the flavors.

Pours fairly crystal clear deep reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Aromas of big caramel, toast, toffee, brown bread, raisin, plum, biscuit, light nuttiness, light chocolate, light smoke, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Very nice balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and moderate fruity/earthy yeast flavors; with great robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied; with a smooth and fairly slick/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice scotch ale style. All around good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and moderate fruity/earthy yeast flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Shared bomber, pour to tulip. Hazy straw/gold color; heavy, fluffy head. Fresh citrus aroma. Belgian yeast tempers the hops. No bitterness. Smooth, slightly sour finish. No alcohol kick: this one drinks like a session beer. Happy this brewery is now bottling and available in my local store.
