The snowstorm delayed their trip for several hours, and, to kill the time, they started talking about the huge amount of beer they had stuffed in their cooler for their guys’ weekend. They had microbrews from all over Michigan, imports from Europe, St. Louis, and Milwaukee…
But, as they talked, they realized something was missing: a regular Michigan beer — a kickass, easily-approachable beer that all Michiganders could rejoice over. They spent the remaining hours wishing for such a thing to exist before realizing that they could either keep complaining, or they could do it themselves. And that’s how the idea for Wolverine Premium Lager, our flagship brew, was born.
A few years and a few additions later, we’re operating as the first and only all-lager microbrewery in the state of Michigan. We’re constantly pushing the envelope with what a lager can do -- we experiment with combined cultures, high-gravity lagers, and best-quality ingredients for the most balanced, unique, and innovative beers possible. Our Brewmaster, Oliver, along with brewer Karl and cellarmen Rick and Brandon, spend every day fanatically creating, caring for, and bottling each and every lager. We hope you love drinking it as much as we love making it!
Sold to new ownership in 2025, with the taproom closed, but plans to continue production and distribution of the brand.

Reviewed from notes.
The appearance was a semi-dark copper color with a film of a little white foamy head. No lace.
The aroma had some toast, toffee/caramel malts, some chestnuts and apples.
The flavor was towards the sweet side with a developing little bit of dark fruit playing with the apple sweetness. Decently blended aftertaste rolling into the finish.
The feel was just a tad under than medium bodied with a decent sessionability about it. Good carbonation and the ABV felt appropriate.
Overall, I’d have this again during football season if I lived in Michigan. I didn’t mind this beer one bit.

Slightly hazy amber coloured body with a copper glow and a thinnish, two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of light grass, malt, earth and a good deal of light grassy and citrus hops alongside some toffee and caramelisd sugars. Medium-bodied; Assertive hop flavours up front of grass, pine and herbs, all with a nice malt backbone with some noticeable lager yeast and a dry finish. Aftertaste shows a bit of earth, some strong floral elements, toffee, sugars and quite a bit of residual hoppiness and bitter flavours. Overall, a nice Lager with a ton of hoppiness and a good robust beer that would be good for any style, but also full of flavour. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 24-July-2015 for US$2,19 sampled at home in Washington on 25-January-2017.

Poured into a pilsener glass, the appearance was a black color with a two finger off white foamy head. Mild messy semi-foamy lace.
The aroma had a hefty amount of thick sweet milk chocolate, caramel malts and some red cherries. Light roast underneath.
The flavor leans to the sweet side with the chocolate and cherries. Roast seemed barely there. Rich chocolatey sweet aftertaste and in the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a smooth sessionably texture flowing over my tongue. Moderate carbonation.
Overall, not a schwarzbier, but perhaps a porter with a lager yeast? Yes, I’ll leave that question mark there, just a tad confused though a very good beer just as it is.

Golden-amber colour.. Nice beech smoke nose. Has a slightly overcarbonated character with bitter, smoky notes and light pale malts. Smoked helles, I guess.
