Bottle: Poured a deep amber color ale with a super huge off-white foamy head with great retention and excellent lacing. Aroma consists of bitter hops with some light citrus notes with a nice touch of spicy rye malt. Taste is also a nice mix between a solid spicy rye malt backbone with some bitter and citrus hops. Body is quite full with great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Well brewed and very interesting beer to try.

Slow gusher. Light hazy orange with a big and lasting off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty and rather hoppy - peach and grapefruit. Flavor is quite sweet and very bitter. Rather dry and very bitter finish. Could have used a little more sweetness for balance. 240212

Location: 750 ml bottle from Whole Foods-Lamar (Austin), 2/20/12
Aroma: On first whiff, there is a big tropical/citrus aroma; however, that seems to go away rather quickly, and the aroma that remains is bread, yeast, malts, and a little bit of citrus (nose/taste are border-line 7/8s)
Appearance: The pours is a hazy orange color with a small, lasting white head and spotty lacing
Flavor: Tastes mildly sweet, with hops, bread, yeast, citrus and floral notes leading to a fairly bitter finish
Palate: Medium bodied, it has a smooth and somewhat creamy feel, with a subtle tingle and a dry finish
Overall Impression: I was fairly excited to see this one in the store. After I had the opportunity to try the Black Metal last year, I was rather interested in sampling something else from this brewery, and I'm always happy when that something is a RyePA. Anyway, while I thought this was a pretty good beer, it wasn't as good when compared to the style as that RIS I had last year. I still enjoyed it though.

Location: Draft at Flying Saucer Austin, 2/18/12
Aroma: The nose is citrus, spice, some funk, yeast, lemon, and banana
Appearance: This one pours a slightly cloudy golden-orange, bright white head
Flavor: The taste is a decent mix of light sweetness and yeasty tartness
Palate: The body is fairly light, and it has a long tingly and tart finish on the tongue
Overall Impression: This was a pretty interesting beer. I was happy to see what was attempted. It wasn't amazing, but it was certainly interesting.
