Description
Bellwoods Brewery began as a small brewpub in the west end of Toronto in 2012, and underwent a couple modest growth spurts over the years to encompass two retail shops (selling fresh cans and bottles), and a production brewery in North York (mostly to house The Foeder Pyramid). These days, we produce about 18,000hL a year, which is a mere blip in the grand scheme of Ontario beer, but keeps us pretty busy. The styles we’re interested in brewing range greatly, and we always remain open to new ways of making beer. For the most part, our current efforts are devoted to aromatic hoppy stuff, crisp lagers, barrel aged wild blends, fruit-forward zingers, and the occasional barrel aged stout. There’s always a new, creative project waiting in the wings. We’re still a relatively small, collaborative team, forever dedicated to the pursuit of perfect beer–thanks so much for partaking in the fruits of our labour.

(500ml bottle from brewery) Pours lightly hazed pale gold with a small ring of white head, light lace. Aroma quite interesting, lemon oil and a blend of tropical fruit, more pungent than expected, but with a strong spicy, grassy character like fresh herbs, some pale malt. Palate has grassy, herbal notes to start followed by pale malt sweetness and a juicy fruit core of orange and light notes of assorted tropicals, then spicy and earthy and a bit ’green’ on the finish with a moderate bitterness and no grain. Mouthfeel medium, a little slick, softer carb. The Sterling hop character was a lot stronger and more pungent than I’d expected and the blend of fruit and spice is tasty. Interesting, I enjoyed it more than I’d hoped.

Bottle from the brewery. Hazy pale orange-yellow with a small white head that fades slowly and leaves some lace. Nose is lemon and grapefruit with light pine and some floral notes. Light sweet caramel and fruit start leading to a moderate bitter grapefruit and light spice middle and a dry finish. Mouth is the light side of medium but not watery with quite active carbonation. Excellent session PA.

Bottle - Light peach and mandarin notes with some funk. Clear gold with a rich white head and lots of floaties. Pale malts, light orange and a long bitterness. The aftertaste is the only thing that really stands out, otherwise pretty mild.
