Description
Bellwoods Brewery began as a small brewpub in the west end of Toronto in 2012, and underwent a couple modest growth spurts over the years to encompass two retail shops (selling fresh cans and bottles), and a production brewery in North York (mostly to house The Foeder Pyramid). These days, we produce about 18,000hL a year, which is a mere blip in the grand scheme of Ontario beer, but keeps us pretty busy. The styles we’re interested in brewing range greatly, and we always remain open to new ways of making beer. For the most part, our current efforts are devoted to aromatic hoppy stuff, crisp lagers, barrel aged wild blends, fruit-forward zingers, and the occasional barrel aged stout. There’s always a new, creative project waiting in the wings. We’re still a relatively small, collaborative team, forever dedicated to the pursuit of perfect beer–thanks so much for partaking in the fruits of our labour.

smells a little sour malty, a little alcohol. This beer doesnt taste super belgian, but its an alright session ale. Pours dark mahagony, like the menu says. On tap at brewpub.

Smells great. Some floral hops and bitterness. Citrus, even some anise. Pours kind of like a lager, like lot of good tripels though. A little cloudy. Taste has quite a lot of alcohol, bitterness and a lot of monkish pleasantry. Bottle from first sale at the brewery.

Pours with thick creamy head, clear amber in colour. Smells a little metallic with some sweet malt. Taste is soft on carbonation with an aftertaste that fills up the oak taste with a little barley bitter. There’s some saison-like yeast taste here reminiscent of some of Bellwood’s other lines. The beer grows on me as I drink it, but I think I actually liked the un-barrel aged Biere de Garde better. Maybe should have let it age for a while. Bottle from the first batch of this one at the brewery.
