Description
Bellwoods Brewery began as a small brewpub in the west end of Toronto in 2012, and underwent a couple modest growth spurts over the years to encompass two retail shops (selling fresh cans and bottles), and a production brewery in North York (mostly to house The Foeder Pyramid). These days, we produce about 18,000hL a year, which is a mere blip in the grand scheme of Ontario beer, but keeps us pretty busy. The styles we’re interested in brewing range greatly, and we always remain open to new ways of making beer. For the most part, our current efforts are devoted to aromatic hoppy stuff, crisp lagers, barrel aged wild blends, fruit-forward zingers, and the occasional barrel aged stout. There’s always a new, creative project waiting in the wings. We’re still a relatively small, collaborative team, forever dedicated to the pursuit of perfect beer–thanks so much for partaking in the fruits of our labour.

Smells super citrusy, heavy citra hops presence. Some pine too, like the description reads. Pours golden with a little murkiness and orange. Taste is strong bitter. Smell also has some nice nectarine or other fruitiness. On tap at brewpub.

(Draught at Tequila Bookworm, Toronto) Poured an inky black with basically no head, just a few bubbles. Aroma of strong coffee, a little chocolate, stewed raisins and dark fruits and a bit of toffee. Flavour again coffee, figs and rasins, dark chocolate, malty with quite light roast. Just a little vegetal anise/fennel/licorice on the finish. Sweet but not not cloying with a touch of bitterness and no real hops bitterness to speak of. Mouthfeel is medium, carbonation very very light. The beer is smooth, rounded, relatively rich and flavourful - very nice as cooler fall weather starts to hit.

Had this again a couple years after saving it and it doesn’t hold up well. A little too boozy and balance is off to hell. Not sure if this is from a different batch - i liked it in the brewpub when I first had it fresh. earlier rating: Pours cloudy orange with good head and a little lacing. Aroma has some hops, citrus and alcohol. Also some apricot it seems but that may be an overthrow from the fruit helmet I just had. Taste has wonderful marmalade bitterness and sour rolled together. Tastes like some sort of IIPA and belgianstrong ale hybrid. On tap at brewpub.

Smells sweet and malty, alittle like raspberry. Pours a brownish red. Some serious sourness in the taste, again in the raspberry sense without the sweetness. Mouth puckering almost. A little bit of an odd coolness in aftertaaste as well. On tap at brewpub.

Lots of citrus smell here. Pours with big head that dies down quick but leaves lots of lacing. Kind of a golden hue. Theres a lot of marmalade bitter without the sugar here. Some straw and a little barnyard, but not as strong as the petal pusher I just had in that sense. Bitterness hangs around for a while on the palate. Id say the smell is much more promising than the follow through on taste here, great aroma but medium palate.

Pours cloudy yellow. Smells like barnyard straw, similar to other Bellwoods. Brews. Has a strong bitter hops taste that combines nicely with the raw brewibg smell inside the brewpub today. A little bit of sourness in the after, but bitterness controls here. Pretty good. On tap

This smells like smoked gouda. Taste is sour, low in carbonation. Definitly a sour mash vibe here, with tons of flavour and palate for such a low alcohol beer. Not used to this style being so good. On tap at brew.pub

Smells like hay, the nelson hops and some nice white belgian yeast. Light wheaty malts. Taste is a little bitter, this reminds me of the saison but not as good. A little booze in the taste as well. On tap at brewpub.

This is a lot better than I thought it would be. A better beer than the lost river.grapefruit sours and bitter hops. Dark pale ale. Pretty decent, another decent Ontario ipa. On tap at bellwoods.

This is great for a fruit beer. Excellent hoppy bitter blend with the fruity tastes. This is everything a fruit beer should be, subtle on the fruit, heavy on the hops and malty taste. Helps that its fruity Kiwi hops. Apricot is definitly there in the aroma as well. Nice bitter aftertaste. Some sweet malt as well and mango haning around. On tap at bellwoods brewpub.
