Description
Bellwoods Brewery began as a small brewpub in the west end of Toronto in 2012, and underwent a couple modest growth spurts over the years to encompass two retail shops (selling fresh cans and bottles), and a production brewery in North York (mostly to house The Foeder Pyramid). These days, we produce about 18,000hL a year, which is a mere blip in the grand scheme of Ontario beer, but keeps us pretty busy. The styles we’re interested in brewing range greatly, and we always remain open to new ways of making beer. For the most part, our current efforts are devoted to aromatic hoppy stuff, crisp lagers, barrel aged wild blends, fruit-forward zingers, and the occasional barrel aged stout. There’s always a new, creative project waiting in the wings. We’re still a relatively small, collaborative team, forever dedicated to the pursuit of perfect beer–thanks so much for partaking in the fruits of our labour.

Bottle - Lemon grass, lime and some sweet yeast. Cloudy yellow and a rich head. Sour, oaky, lemon, coriander effervescent and dry. Another nice beer from what is becoming my favourite Canadian brewery.

Bottle: Poured a deep pink color ale with a rather large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of fresh raspberries with light malt presence. Taste is dominated by rather dry raspberries with non-descript malt base with light tart finish. Body is about average with good carbonation. Base beer is mostly overshadowed by fresh raspberries taste. Pretty good overall but missing a little something to take it to the next level.

Bottle: Poured a hazy beige/yellow color ale with large white foamy head with excellent retention and some lacing. Aroma of rustic malt notes with light lemony notes is very refreshing. Taste is also dominated by rustic malt notes with some lemony notes and a super great peppery yeast finish which brings out some complexity over an easily drinkable beer. The barrel-aging might have smoothed things out but really didn’t play a huge role. Body is full with great carbonation. Excellent saison and I must admit it is very impressive considering the fact that this is a relatively new brewery.

This Saison poured a cloudy bright yellow colour with a quick living, bright white head. Scents include lemon, orange and pineapple citrus, cloves, hay and leather. First swig was smooth with flavours of citrus hops most predominant. As many citrus flavours and scents in this one. Light clove flavor too. Finish is mellow with medium / low carbonation and high citrus hopp flavor lingering...

This porter pored a deep black colour with a big, beautiful tan coloured head. To the nose there are scents of caramel, cocoa, anis and molasses. First taste was creamy and somewhat sweet with flavours of caramel, light coffee, little cocoa and sweet dark malts. Finish is thick and sweet with burnt flavours lingering...
