Description
Bellwoods Brewery began as a small brewpub in the west end of Toronto in 2012, and underwent a couple modest growth spurts over the years to encompass two retail shops (selling fresh cans and bottles), and a production brewery in North York (mostly to house The Foeder Pyramid). These days, we produce about 18,000hL a year, which is a mere blip in the grand scheme of Ontario beer, but keeps us pretty busy. The styles we’re interested in brewing range greatly, and we always remain open to new ways of making beer. For the most part, our current efforts are devoted to aromatic hoppy stuff, crisp lagers, barrel aged wild blends, fruit-forward zingers, and the occasional barrel aged stout. There’s always a new, creative project waiting in the wings. We’re still a relatively small, collaborative team, forever dedicated to the pursuit of perfect beer–thanks so much for partaking in the fruits of our labour.

Bottle: Poured a medium amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of citrus and resin hops are quite power full with some bitterness discernable. Taste is also dominated by loads of citrus notes with some resin and some medium sweet caramel malt. Aftertaste is quite bitter with maybe not as much floral aromas as I would have liked. Body is quite full with great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Well brewed though a bit too much Cascade for it’s own good.

This one is super good. Doesn’t really taste like a saison so much as a Belgian ale, but taste is good. Pours dark brown without much head or lacing. Medium carbonation. Taste has a bit of brett-like sourness combined with a little bitterness - a touch strong at the end. Bottle from brewpub.

650mL bottle, sent from Glouglouburp (thanks a lot, Dany), pours a hazy amber with a small off-white head. Nose is rich on both truckloads of resinous hops and a big portion of caramel malts, a bit of a syrupy quality to it as well. Flavour is very similar, but without the syrupy qualities, with truckloads of resinous hops, lots of grapefruit, some further back tropical fruits, and loads of caramel malts. Leaves a very puckering and extremely pleasant grapefruit-heavy, hoppy bitterness, coating the whole palate. Very full-bodied An unexpected gem from Ontario - this is truly excellent.

Smells fruity, like citrusand apples. Full taste. Pours orange amber with a little head and some lacing. Cool hops showcase. Not too bitter- just bitter enough. Smells a little malty as well. Bottle from brewpub.

Hazy deep blond color, creamy head. Very nice aroma, fresh hops, a bit grassy. Dry and smooth mouthfeel; light wheat flavor, light spiciness from the yeast; the hop provides a very light fruity touch; the bitterness is strong, too aggressive in the final indeed.

Hazy blond color. Delicate aroma, spicy, with a light herbal and musky character. Smooth and dry mouthfeel; spicy, good yeast activity, with a hint of coriander and sage; relatively strong bitterness; the final has a grassy trace.
Positively aggressive.

Hazy amber color. Very nice hop aroma, very animal. Good body strength, maybe the crystal malt is unnecessary; moderate residual sweetness; strong hopping, again, animal more than fruity or resiny.

Cloudy pale blond color without head. Very unusual, yet interesting aroma, with bread and light smoke, light lactic acid too, bread dough. The mouthfeel is dry, but not weak; there are notes of bread, lactic acid, light smoke; the acidity is moderate, less than traditional Berliner Weisse. The final is a bit astringent; there is a lemony touch; but that bread feeling that sticks on the teeth is lovely.
Amazing.

Cloudy brown color, with almost no head. The aroma is nice, mild sourness, chocolate, wood, campfire; a good balance. The flavor is a bit sour, some roasted malt, some bread dough; the body is medium-thin, the mouthfeel is dry; drier final, a bit lemony too.

Dark brown color, with almost no head. The aroma is fruity (banana), and with a lot of candi sugar, and a hint of apples; been there. Good body strength; there is some caramel, chocolate, moderate sweetness, light fruitiness (banana), and some liquorice that is out of place; correct bitterness.
Overall, quite messy.
