Super sharp green onion, pineapple rind. Pours clear golden orange with decent head. The Root and Branch I had just before this was actually a little better, surprisingly. Saturated world of hazies these days. Hop tang finish. Tap at Snally.

16 ounce can. Opaque black color. Incredibly dense, foamy tan head. Chocolate malt aroma is subtle. Hints of burnt toast and pine. Flavor upfront is bittersweet chocolate, black pepper and sticky pine. Exceedingly bitter in long resiny finish. Really well done.

Draft pour at Snallygaster 2022. Poured a clear golden orange color with a small white head. Aroma was huge resin notes. Huge florals, big pine resin. Alcohol burn kicked me in the back of the throat. Huge beer, maybe a bit of a beer from a bygone era. The normal Sunshine is nice enough as-is for me.

Pours black into a tulip. Mocha head with good retention recedes leaving scant sheets. Licorice and chocolate aromas. Dry, with dark chocolate, soy and licorice front to back. Lasting earthy tree bark and charred coffee grounds finish.

‘Vermontian’ imperial stout flavoured with coffee, cinnamon and maple syrup and aged in calvados barrels; thanks tderoeck for sharing. Pale yellow-beige, tiny-bubbled, opening head on a black beer with thin burgundy edges. Aroma of coffee indeed (espresso powder, coffee filters) but embedded in impressions of soy sauce, bitter chocolate, calvados or even whisky, fudge, cinnamon, less maple syrup, toffee, bayleaf, raisin, beef stock cube, glue. Sweet, dense onset, candied dates and fig compote, old raisins, very soft carb, full oily mouthfeel; light beef stock-like umami aspects edge a walnutty, toffeeish malt bittersweetness with chocolatey core, developing a roasted bitter tail which is reinforced by the coffee. Spicy finish, peppery hops and cinnamon noticeable, with the spiciness highlighted by whisky-like alcohol (more than apple brandy which was actually involved); long, warming, spicy, ‘wintery’ finish, but not too astringent. Complex, enough of the promised coffee and cinnamon though perhaps less maple syrup than expected; in any case a very classically styled, almost old school-ish American style flavoured ‘impy’.

Draught @ Grand Delancey. Clear golden with foamy off-white head, citrus aroma, adequate carbonation, mildly bitter fresh citrusy taste, thin body, longish finish. Refreshingly citrusy.
