About
Hawkstone is the brainchild of Jeremy Clarkson and Rick and Emma from the Cotswold Brew Co. Having put blood, sweat and tears into cultivating his malting barley, Jeremy was determined that it be put to good use, so resolved to supply it directly to a local brewery to turn into lager. He was introduced to Rick and Emma from the Cotswold Brewery by the landlord at their local and they hit it off immediately. Like Jeremy, they’re committed to supporting local agriculture but they’re not just good people, they’re also excellent brewers. They created Hawkstone Lager - a brew of such exquisite quality that Jeremy decided to invest.

Bottle from Gloucester Services. Pours clear pale yellow with a white head. Aroma: grains, bread, light floral. Taste: light sweet & bitter, grains, light grassy hops. Medium body with frothy carbonation.

Tap at The Castle Inn, Castle Combe, 17th June 2021. Pours clean and straw colour, very light. Aroma is straw, fresh hay. Taste is quite sharp, hay, straw, fresh grass, medium bitter and a sharp refreshing bitter linger. Not bad

Easter Sunday 2021, 4th April; mega session at home. 330ml can from LowCostBeer: BBE Jan 2021, so out of date when drank (shared with no one). Mini haze to the light golden body, fast fading white head. Bog Standard Lager, nothing to get excited about but pleasant enough in the afternoon sunshine. Almost odourless and tasteless.

24/3/2021. Can from LowCostBeer.com. Pours clear bright pale gold with a large frothy white head. Aroma of sweet malt, grain, citrus, straw, creamy notes. Medium sweetness, light bitterness. Moderate body, light creamy texture, average carbonation. Quite Kolsch like. Better than expected.

Tight off white head stayed on a reddish brown still body. Malt, pine & treacle aroma. Medium bodied, well carbonated & clean on the back. Red berries, malt, spices, demerara & treacle tastes. Tastes more like a Red Ale - Nice.

Bottle picked up from the brewery, split at the Hazlemere 2nd test tasting, 16/07/20. Golden amber pour topped with a decent light beige cap. Nose is caramel, stewed fruits, dark malts, raisins, sugars. Taste comprises caramel, fruit cake, sweet malts, biscuit crumbs, nutty tones, dried fruit esters. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a kiss of booze. Decent bock.
