Description
The tradition of brewing beer in the abbey buildings of the nunnery Göss was revived when in 1860 the brewer and entrepreneur Max Kober acquired parts of the monastery and reactivated the brewery. This important year for Gösser is still noted on the labels today. With the founding of an AG in 1893, Max Kober laid the foundation stone for the development into one of the most important breweries in Austria.
In 1977 Gösser joined the Steirerbrau group, which merged into rivalling Brau-Beteiligungs-AG (BBAG) in 1991. From 1993 both companies operated under Brau Union Austria. In 2003, Gösser with Brau Union was taken over by Heineken.

0.5 l can from 'REWE von Wantoch', best before September 2025. Hazy, pale straw yellow with a medium large, slightly fluffy, quickly diminishing, white head. Sweetish, a little sourish, very fruity aroma of lemon juice, lemonade and faint hints of grains. Very sweet, minimally sourish, moderately bitter, rather fruity taste of lemonade, some lemon juice and a touch of grains, followed by a short, moderately bitter, a little tart finish. Thin to medium body, minimally astringent and quite effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Quite nice for what it is.

500 ml can from Billa, in Salzburg, Austria. Pours a crystal clear gold color with a white head and great retention. Fine streaming bubbles. Great lacing too. Standard pale malt aroma. The taste follows the nose: Super clean and smooth pale lager flavor with a crisp finish. A classic festbier that's just the right mix of body, lightly sweet malt, and carbonation. Medium body and medium carbonation. Very low/no bitterness. Great beer. Uber repeatable. I wish I bought more of these. Prost!
