Description
The Schlossbrauerei Ellingen with its fine beer specialties has been around since 1690. Experience a piece of our long-standing brewing history with every sip. What makes our beers so unique? FÜRST CARL beers are still brewed by hand in the traditional way in the copper brewhouse of the historic brewery. Our raw materials are natural and come from Ellingen and the region: water from our own well, hops and malt from Ellingen and Franconia. We only brew what we are good at: Franconian beer specialties!
Our family, the princes of Wrede and the team of FÜRST CARL stand behind what we do: first-class beers.

500ml can from the Costco Advent Calendar, drank in California on 24th December 2021. Mini-haze to the second pour (first one being almost clear), amber/orange in colour, decent white head on both pours. Biscuit/bready malts in the nose and initial taste, light caramel leanings. It's a little sweet, but there is some hop action for a bit of balance.

500 ml from the Costco Advent calendar. Aroma is bready, caramel. Pours lightly hazy golden with a one finger off-white head with decent retention. Taste is moderately sweet with faint bitterness, finishing dry. Peppery, bready sweet flavors. Nothing wrong with the palate. Too sweet for me.

Can behind day 24 of the Costco Advent Calendar. It pours cloudy orangey - gold with a decent fluffy white. The aroma is fresh and full of rich malty action, rustic bread, biscuit, cereal, light sweetness, tangy lemon curd, custard creams, leafy malt and cereal. The taste is dry and firm initially, then it has a sweet bready vibe, cereal, biscuit, rich tea and custard creams, touch of spice, doughy, grass and grain with a smooth, doughy finish. Medium body and fine to moderate, massaging carbonation. Hearty and bready, smooth and moreish. Lovely stuff.

Half liter can from the Costco Advent calendar. Doughy malt nose, fresh baked bread, herbal hops, light citrus, yeasty esters. Rich malty flavor, yeasty dough rising. Hazy bright gold with a tall head. Sweet flavor, estery, doughy, citrus, herbs.Relatively full in body, low carbonation. Not quite up there with the best Franconian kellerbiers, at least in this form, but hey, in a can it's mighty satisfying.

Can, labelled as 5.4% ABV. The Kalea mixed pack from Aldi. Gold with an inch of white head and a slight haze. Mild biscuity aroma with lemon, some spices and grass. Biscuity and a bit grainy - pleasantly rustic - before nicely decisive bitterness sweeps in and demands another swig. Pretty good.
