pFriem artisanal beers are symphonies of flavor and balance, influenced by the great brewers of Europe, but unmistakably true to our homegrown roots in the Pacific Northwest. Although they are served humbly, each glass is overflowing with pride and a relentless aspiration to brew the best beer in the world.

Can from Tavour. Pours clear bright gold with a white head. Aroma of mixed citrus with zest notes. Med body, no more. Pale malt is nicely obscured by bitterness. Relatively moderate bitterness for a WCIPA IMHO. Flavor is citrus pith with a pine accompaniment. Maybe a touch of resin. Pleasant ale.

On tap at Beer O’Clock, pours a clear pale golden blonde with a small white head. Aroma reveals a nice white wine hop tang to the hop expression, some pine, and soft biscuity malt underbelly. Flavour is much the same, with a nice, soft piney hop expression, some gooseberry, and dry biscuity malt base. White wine-like piney finish too. Excellent.

On tap at Loyal Legion - Portland, pours a clear pale golden blonde with a small white head. Aroma has dry, woody, grassy hops, biscuity malt, and what seem like dry bittering hops—I don’t get any Riwaka sadly. Flavour is much more expressive, revealing that nice Waka with the spicy, tangy hops, some pine, grassiness, and crisp crackery malt. Nicely hopped (quite pronounced residual bitterness), yet balanced, and clean. Good stuff.

On tap at Horse Brass, pours jet black with a small tan head. Aroma is old school, with tons of roasted malt, big earthy hops, and some piney bitterness. Flavour is rich, with huge roasted malt, deep earthy, piney hop bitterness, impeccably balanced, with remarkable depth. Wonderfully assertive roast and hoppy bitterness. Killer.

On tap at pFriem - Milwaukie, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is loaded with deep cocoa nibs, soft bourbon, vanillin, and oak. Flavour is super chocolatey, with wonder baker’s chocolate, deep bourbon, oak, vanillin, and gentle sugars. Not the heaviest but that chocolate depth combines so well with the bourbon. Fantastic.

On tap at pFriem - Milwaukie, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma is complex, with lots of buggy farmhouse notes, aged hops, hay, and oak. Flavour is quite pungent, with intense leather, tart citrus, some acidity, light acetone, and oak. Very low-level phenols and acetone prevent this from being what it could, though there’s doubtless complexity and depth. Good but could be considerably improved.

On tap at pFriem - Milwaukie, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma has musty sweat socks, some woody oak, and bugginess. Flavour is much more appealing, with a nice tropical stone fruit character, complex bugginess, oak, and wet wood. Good use of the brett, with a nice fruity depth. Real solid.

Aroma sure reveals potent Motueka, with astringent pine needles, light grapefruit rind, melon, and biscuity malt. Flavour is much softer, with a nice stone fruit hop expression, lime, light pine, and orange. Great hop expression, good clarity, good balance. Excellent.
