Description
Italian local couple Massimiliano & Sonia, who initially aimed to produce beer only for the family, without the idea of obtaining revenue or even making it a real job, set up the Maiella brewery. Since our first beers in 2008, now several years have passed, the brewery has been forced to move to the home of 'Noonas' at a higher altitude due to the low fermentation.

Bottle, 75cl. It pours a lightly hazy amber body under a minimal sized off-white head, just a few bubbles actually. Caramel notes and some malts in the aroma, dried fruits too. Fruity flavor with some prunes and caramel and a touch of bitterness and malts. Medium body and a very low level of carbonation. Short finish. Sure drinkable, but way too boring. 141128

Small slightly bubbly shortlasting head. Aroma is kind of dry floral, camomile, flowers, weeds, hay, bark, sap, grain, leafs, hints og citrus. Taste is slightly dry floral, weeds, camomile, flowers, hay, grain, sap, bark, leafs. Medium bitterness, slightly dry mouthfeel. Nice enough. Kind of interesting though, and probably very nice with food.

Bottle at home. 1 year old. The colour is deep brown to black with a small beige. Aroma of dried fruit, leather, coffee, roasted malt, forest floor, heather, cola, salt licorice and some smoke. The flavour is similar with nice roasted tones and warming alcohol. Has a slick and silky mouth feel, and a light bitterness. A stout with game tones, is balanced and tasteful.

0.75l bottle. Quite a lot of unappealing brown murky yeast sediment in the neck of the bottle and under the cap. It doesn't smell or look nice, so I choose to remove it before pouring the beer. In the glass it's quickly making a huge fluffy bright white head on top of a really cloudy orange looking body. Smells much better now that I have it over in the glass. Wheat, yeast, oranges and a little bit of apples. The green almost apple-juiced kind. Not to bad. It's somewhat lively on the bubbles and it feels thin oily in the mouth. A bit papery and dry flavors. Wheat, flowers and grains. Some yeast nuances also and it's kinda floral bitter in a way. Not hard to drink at all, but not something I feel an urge to try again. 26.01.2014

Bottle 750ml at 9.0 % abv from Vinmonopolet, Bestillingsutvalget (Langnes). Clear rosewood coloured body, hazy last pour. Dissipating tan-coloured head. Caramel and anise on the nose. Blended taste profile of anise, raisin and dark malts. Smooth mid-sweet malty ending. Fine bodied. A stout with a special twist, quite nice. (shared at the Tower of Power session, Tromsø 09.04.2014).
