Description
Leroy Het Sas : The original brewery "Het Sas", later Brouwerij Leroy, established in Boezinge in 1572; destroyed in the First World War and rebuilt in 1924. Named after a lock ('sas' in Dutch) in the nearby canal. Cooperating with Van Eecke (Leroy Breweries Watou) since 1962. Both breweries merged into Leroy Breweries in 2016.
Leroy Watou : Established as a castle brewery for the count of Watou in 1624 and also known formerly as Brouwerij De Gouden Leeuw. Has long been connected to Leroy in Boezinge through family ties, with both breweries cooperating since 1962. They merged into Leroy Breweries in 2016; the Watou branch now does all the actual brewing (while Boezinge handles conditioning and bottling).
From the website:

Pour is a cloudy yellow with a huge white head. Aroma is quite spicy and hoppy. Flavor is typical Belgian stong, not that there is anything wrong with that. Lots of banana with some yeastyness and a certain spice to it. Very tasty and pleasing to the sences.

Light amber hazy ale with a nice creamy white head. Aroma of curacao, aniseed, and apples, with alcohol vapours. In mouth, rich tingly malt, dryish, with some pleasant tartness, a bit in your face, but overall, interesting. Bottle at l’Autre Oeil, March 3, 2006.

Bottled. Yellow, hazy beer with a large, dense, diminishing white head. Yeast sediments in the bottles. Lovely citrus aroma of lemon and orange, and some spicyness. Quite weak and dry mouthfeel. Fruity, chalky and metallic finish. The flavor is disappointing in comparison with the aroma, banana, lemon and coriander. The amount of lemon flavor almost makes it reminiscent of a radler. Not a bad beer, though. (060228)

Bottled. Very dark ruby, rich head. Interesting fruity meat soup aroma. Sweet and soft, very buttery with plenty of chocolate and cocktail cherries. Finish with some bitter cocoa. There’s a lot going on in this beer and it gives a chaotic impression. Very interesting stuff indeed.

Bottled. Clear pale golden. Grassy and minerally. Fairly sweet with rounded, dense mouthfeel. Notes of orange, otherwise the flavours are surprisingly light. Dryish finish.

Bottle, thanks to Chris for the sample! Pale, slightly cloudy yellow with a large bubbly head. Really hoppy aroma, with some additional banana, dust, and light fruit. Flavor is interesting- with lots of banana and other malts like many Belgian ales, but with a nice hoppy finish. It’s quite interesting to have a traditional Belgian-flavored beer with a nice hoppy finish. Not stong by any means... Hmmm...
