Description
Leroy Het Sas : The original brewery "Het Sas", later Brouwerij Leroy, established in Boezinge in 1572; destroyed in the First World War and rebuilt in 1924. Named after a lock ('sas' in Dutch) in the nearby canal. Cooperating with Van Eecke (Leroy Breweries Watou) since 1962. Both breweries merged into Leroy Breweries in 2016.

Leroy Watou : Established as a castle brewery for the count of Watou in 1624 and also known formerly as Brouwerij De Gouden Leeuw. Has long been connected to Leroy in Boezinge through family ties, with both breweries cooperating since 1962. They merged into Leroy Breweries in 2016; the Watou branch now does all the actual brewing (while Boezinge handles conditioning and bottling).

From the website:

Bottle, BBE June, 2007 Clear, golden body. White, fizzy head, which is fastly disappearing. Nose of hops, fine malts, ... very standard. Disappointing flavour: lightly sweet, lightly bitter, very weak ...

(bottle) Hazy golden colour with a stable fluffy yellow head. Yeasty and strong fruity (orange peel, pineapple) aroma with floral hops. Sweetbitter flavour, medium body, lively carbonation. Sweet malty and fruity taste, dry and moderately bitter but floral and herbal hoppy finish. Aromatic brew.

(Bottle 25 cl) Very pale golden with a creamy, white head leaving some laces. lightly perfumy, hoppy aroma. Naturally the body is rather light, but not especially watery. Quite bitter with an underlying sweetness from the added, artificial sweetener. Not so bad for a Belgian "tafelbier". 181205

On tap at Delirium Café, May 2005. Lightly hazy blonde with a thick creamy head. Aroma of wheat, bubble gum but some matchstick sulfur notes also present. Rather weak in mouth, with light bananas and chalky notes. Not what I expected from this brewery.

Dark golden ale with a thin white head. Grassy and peppery aroma, a bit unpleasant. The resinous grass stays in mouth, with a bit of cattiness and light hops. Very thin. Mildly interesting. Bought at Delhaize, Brussels, April 2005.

Bottle: Hazy, nearly cloudy, orangey coloured, mid-sized fluffy off-white head, lasting; sweetish fruity (honey) nose with a big touch of bitter-aromatic hops; sweetish flavour, not very bitter; dryer, hoppy aromatic finish with a tinge of fruitiness; quite full bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and pretty well hidden alcohol. A deceptive, aromatic brew...............
