Description
Since 1870 our family, the Meens family, has been brewing its Alfa beers in the traditional way. Alfa Bier's brewing process is still the traditional brewing process. The recipe, the method of brewing and the raw materials have consciously never changed, because we do not compromise on the quality of our beer. Alfa is the only brewery in the Netherlands to have 100% pure spring water from an officially recognized source. That water from our own source determines the special, pure and full taste of our Alfa Beers.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm, 1 feb 2008) Dark ruby colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty, nutty nose with chocolate and dark fruit. Malty, slightly spicy taste with notes of chocolate, hints of clove and/or nutmeg and a spicy, chocolatey finish. Overall very balanced and smooth. Nice and well made bock, without straying too far from the middle of the road.

Bottle, 6.5%. Malty aroma, a little cream, then metal. Clear copper colour. Stable tan head. The flavour is quite malty with a feel of anis and a slight hop spiciness. Medium bitterness, slightly rough. OK balanced.

Can, 9.2%. Vegetable aroma, but it does not smell strong. Clear golden colour. Very small white head. The flavour is a little peppery with distinct veg notes. Not undrinkable, and not as horrible as expected.

Bottled. Pale yellow colour, mediumsized white head. Not much aroma, only malts in the form of cooked vegetables and some mild grassyness. Flavour is the same along with some very grainy notes. Still wellbalanced, but that pleasant.

Golden colour with tight white head. A very strong, sweet aroma mainly of strawberry jam but with some peach and tangerine too. Flavour is also sweet although not as overpowering as the aroma. Luckily it’s a fresh sweetness making it a fairly drinkable beer.

Can (BB 10/2008)
Golden color, small, vanishing white head. Grainy, cardboardish aroma. Alcoholic flavor, but feels less than 9 %, some fruity malty notes, otherwise body is quite watery. Fizzy. Short alcoholic finish. Raw, "straightforward" malt likka.
