The first record of the inn and brewery “Zum goldenen Engel” in Crailsheim from 1738 reads “annual production volume 150 buckets.” In 1877 George Fachs becomes the new owner of the brewery. The Fachs family still owns - now in the fifth generation - the brewery. In 1984 Engel becomes the first German brewery to bottle Radler. Since the turn of the millennium, Engel-Biermanufaktur has developed into a specialty brewery that regularly receives awards for its beers.

Screw top bottle, 500ml; BB 4th Nov 2021. Drank at home on 6th Mar 2021. Clean and clear golden body, fast fading white head. My 10th beer from this brewery and most likely the least interesting and blandest of them all. Bog standard Helles, light bodied and refreshing, but not much actually 'going on' aroma or flavour wise.

Friday 19th Feb 2021; Family Beer Festival, three of us sharing a random selection of cans and bottles in my home bar. 500ml screw top bottle; BB19th Nov 2021. Poured a clean and clear golden colour, fast fading white crown on top. Grainy/Malty front to the nose and taste, mild floral esters and grassy as it warmed a little. Nice, easy going Pils.

Screw top 500ml bottle, as Engel Hefeweizen (Naturtrub); BB 18th Nov 2021. Poured into an old Franziskaner Weissbier glass at home on 19th Feb 2021. Only a light haze to my golden pour, large and lasting white crown on top, lots of carbonation bubbles rising through the beer. Nice nose of wheat, banana, corinander and cloves; taste also has those same attributes. true to style and easy to drink; went well with my lunchtime Smoked Ham and Branston Pickle Sandwich.
