Description
The first record of the inn and brewery “Zum goldenen Engel” in Crailsheim from 1738 reads “annual production volume 150 buckets.” In 1877 George Fachs becomes the new owner of the brewery. The Fachs family still owns - now in the fifth generation - the brewery. In 1984 Engel becomes the first German brewery to bottle Radler. Since the turn of the millennium, Engel-Biermanufaktur has developed into a specialty brewery that regularly receives awards for its beers.

An amber beer with a disappearing off-white head. The aroma is sweet with notes of black currant besides the malt and so is the flavor.

Tap - typical aroma of banana, apricot and cloves with nice big white head and typical Weizen appearance. Flavor fairly subtle - fruit and spice doesn’t really come out in the taste. A bit too much on the mild side for me. Probably best to avoid unless you’re in the Crailsheim area (which is where I tried it).

Roasted fruity malt and a somewhat dusty hop nose -indeed reminds one of a bottled bitter or something similar. Chestnut, low lacing creamy head. Light toasted malt with a herbal hop counterpoint. Dry finish - roasted almond aftertaste. Medium body, a tad fizzy.

I am not getting much coffeearome, instead more nuts, fruit (oranges) and yeasty notes - rather pleasant alltogether. Cloudy chestnut, big creamy head. Fruity malt and caramel which dissipates quickly, ends on a dry milky note. Nutty aftertaste. Relatively light body, first sparkly later sticky mouthfeel..

Banana in the nose, almost to the degree that I would have guessed it to be a Weizen. Hazy pale golden, big creamy head. Sweet, rather flat estery and spicy tastenotes, some herbs. Harsch peppery yeast finish. Its really not very much Kellerbier, has more the character of a (quite boring) ale.

Malty, honeyish and wooden aroma. Golden chestnut, big bubbles, nice creamy head. Malty with a roasted wooden note, citrus, nuts, a tad dust, toasted finish and afterplay. Medium to light body, sparkly mouthfeel - quite refreshing. I fully agree with Joris - really not a bad one-off.

Fat marcipan nose. Golden, no visible carbonation, low lacing blanket head. Grainy malt a hint of wild flowers peeks through, a bit dusty.Grain when exhaling - a quick bitterhop stab at the end. Solid body and a well-lagered sparkling mouthfeel.
