The first record of the inn and brewery “Zum goldenen Engel” in Crailsheim from 1738 reads “annual production volume 150 buckets.” In 1877 George Fachs becomes the new owner of the brewery. The Fachs family still owns - now in the fifth generation - the brewery. In 1984 Engel becomes the first German brewery to bottle Radler. Since the turn of the millennium, Engel-Biermanufaktur has developed into a specialty brewery that regularly receives awards for its beers.

Dezent hefiger, leicht fruchtiger Geruch. Test vom 7.2.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 7,9,9,8,12,9 - 8,80

Bottle, 7.2%. Brick-dusty, sweet yeast aroma. Clear dark brown colour. Very small head. The flavour is sweet and peppery, turning a bit bready. With a sweet yeastiness, giving it a slightly Belgian touch. Rather thin mouthfeel. The bitterness gets a bit rough in the late aftertaste.

Bottle, 4.9%. Weak citric aroma. Clear yellow colour, nice white head. Thin flavour with a very rough bitterness. Seems as if bitter hops were used for flavour hops.

Bottled. Clear, pale golden pilsner with a white head. Grassy and a bit malty aroma. The flavor is grassy and grainy, but not in the often-seen unpleasant way, yet it doesn’t deserve a higher rating. Thin body and a grassy finish. Definately not the worst pilsner. (061222)

Bottled. Clear, dark golden beer with a weak, malty aroma. Some roasted notes as well. The flavor is weak as well, with caramel and malt. Medium to thin body. A quite nice beer, but too boring. That goes for a lot of dunkels IMO. (061222)

Bottle. Creamy white good mostly lasting head. Dark yellow colour. Moderate malty light hoppy aroma. Power but not finesse. A bit metallic flavor but nice bitternes. Average bitter finish. Watery palate and soft carbonated.
