On tap @Brasserie 4:20 (Rome), Colorado Beer Festival. Ambrata scarica, limpida, schiuma bianca non molto persistente. Al naso note di pesca, mango, melone, malto. In bocca ha un attacco di malto importante con finale amaro discreto. Corpo medio-pieno, carbonazione media. Mi aspettavo di più.

On tap at 4:20 in Rome-Italy at the Colorado Tap takeover event (perpetual thanks to Alex and Cris for making this possible). Amber semi-clear pour, little foam. Nose: peach, orange zest. Mouth: watery start with a peppery finish. A bit spicy too. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hazy pale golden color, crazy white foam with retention and drafts on the glass while lowering down. Nose: grassy, some residual yeast. Mouth: soft carbo, sweet notes of hops, malt. Tasty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Taster at the brewery - nose is deep espresso, dark chocolate, dark fruit, caramelized sugar - flavor is intensely sweet, a lot of chocolate, moderate smoke, leather - alcohol is strong, but probably would have guessed 12% - good flavor, but so damn sweet that I couldn’t handle more than a few ounces at a time without slipping into a diabetic coma.

Tulip at the brewery - new batch - hazy gold pour - nose is lightly tart, with notes of oak, white wine, coconut, vermouth, light whiskey, light buggy funk - interesting - creamy texture, medium dry - moderate grassiness, light pepper, moderate bitterness - mild whiskey and moderate vermouth, some milde minerality, white grape, pear - a lot going on, and it doesn’t quite all come together, sadly - the bitterness and minerality definitely clash with the various barrel treatment - not bad, just trying too hard.

They just tapped a keg of the original batch (2016) at the brewery, and boy is it so much better now - still quite fruity and floral, tasting like an extra strong Bigfoot ale a bit - but it has mellowed out so much - you can barely notice the alcohol - lots of earthy malt character and the faintest hint of oxidation - guess it just needs 8 years on it! Taster at the brewery - interesting and fruity take on the style - a lot of dark fruit, woodiness, fruit skins, brown sugar - the alcohol is potent and a bit abrasive and the finish is watery - meh.

Tap at the brewery - Turbid ruby pour - soapy lace - nose and flavor of fig, plum, brown sugar, licorice, red wine, treacle, cherry skins - alcohol is quite present, but is more warming than it is boozy - it’s good!

Turbid gold - nose of mango, guava, moderate funk, pineapple - flavor is medium sour, with some moderate acetic acid/acetone, but not overpowering - some mango and pineapple - despite being quite acidic, it’s actually quite sweet - the rose hips add additional acidity, which is not entirely welcome - a bit sharp overall, and probably my least favorite in the series
