Taster at the brewery - slick mouthfeel - fairly boozy, and kind of smoky, giving impressions of scotch - some notes of red wine, espresso, peat, cocoa - I dig the smokiness, but could use less burn.

Taster at the brewery - more like a barrel age Belgian stout than a saison, but pretty well done - strong spicy phenolics, herbal, peppery bitterness - not overly sweet or goopy - a little chocolate, cherry - barrel is understated, added mild notes of the wine - a little boozy on the tail end - it’s decent.

Taster at the brewery - lightly hazy dark pink - a nice, prickly, quenching acidity, but still balanced, and not a one-dimensional sourness like with a lot of kettle sours - a slight brine character, moderate cherry flesh and skins - a touch of raspberry - finish is savory, with lingering cherry and a mild funk - well done.

Sample at Denver Rare Beer Tasting VIII on 10/07/2016. Brown-black color with a medium tan head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Partial rings of lacing. Bourbon, coffee and malt aroma. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky bourbon, roasted coffee, malt and dark chocolate. The finish is oaky and roasty with a coffee and bourbon aftertaste. Good beer all around.

Sample at Denver Rare Beer Tasting VIII on 10/07/2016. The beer is a slightly hazy orange-gold color with a medium bone white head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Stringy lacing. Aroma of oak, funky yeast and fruit. Medium body with flavors of vinous oak, brett yeast, fruit and doughy malt. The finish is funky with a brett and red wine aftertaste. Good beer overall.

Batch 2 - taster at the brewery - turbid pinkish beer, with a light pink head - supposedly their quad with cherries and hibiscus - nose is lovely - moderate lactic acid and a touch of acetic acid - cherry pie filling - savory character - tart and acidic without being overly sour or abrasive - while cherry flavor, brine - mild cheese rind funkiness - white wine tannins - quite lovely, really.

Taster at the brewery - these guys just don’t seem to do coffee infusion all that well - the coffee character is much better than in the Nightmare Fuel I had last night, but is still rather sharp and acidic - the rye character is also a bit boozy, so that doesn’t help much - the nose is quite inciting (espresso and mellow rye), but the flavor is fairly sharp - slick mouthfeel, low carbonation.

Taster at the brewery - lightly hazy straw - nose much like an IPA - quite hoppy, citrus, some garlic - little to no Belgian character, aside from a touch of ginger - watery, flabby texture - dry, but garlicky hops dominate, washing out any Belgian character - however, the malt character is nicely dry, and the bitterness is strong, pleasant, not abrasive.

Taster at the brewery - clear gold - very dry, crisp, savor Pils, with strongly floral and grassy hops - the hops are bright, fresh, peppery, vibrant - slight minerality - was just at Bierstadt and this Pils is just as good as theirs, if not better.

Batch two - 375 ml bottle - pours a sludgy dark brown, nearly black - nose is heavy on the coffee infusion - like cold espresso - this isn’t so bad in the nose, but in the flavor it is overdone, bitter, abrasive - malt character brings some bitter chocolate, red wine, raisin, but the abrasive coffee smothers this a bit - harsh, with some redeeming qualities.
