Draught. Inky black with small tan foamy head, little bit of roasted malt aroma, low carbonation, mocha taste laced with alcohol, medium finish with coffee beans taste. Quite a mellow stout.

Sample at GABF 10/04/2014, thanks to my BIL for assistance with note-taking. Pours black with a medium foamy light brown head that dissipates steadily. Patchy lacing. Aroma of malt, coffee and chocolate. Medium-bodied with flavors of roasted malt, coffee and dark chocolate. The finish is roasty with a chocolate malt aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Drought. Inky black with creamy large tan head, slight mocha aroma, low carbonation, tastes like coffee laced with cognac, although the body is a bit thin, long finish with cappucino like aftertaste. Definitely a fine brew!

The Sampler, Brooklyn tap: Pours golden with a white head. Aroma is a little bit earthy and herbal (as the description above aptly notes), with some bready malts. Taste is similar. There is no citrus or pine in this beer. It seems a little underwhelming, but that is not to say that the beer is not tasty in its own right.

Drought. Hazy amber color with small off-white foamy head, light caramel aroma, spicy taste, high carbonation, abrupt finish. Tastes as if artificial sweeteners were added, the aftertaste is very similar. Apart from that a nice brew.

Matt Torry’s, Brooklyn tap ($6): Pours golden with white head. Aroma is light citrus hops and bready malts. Taste is bitter and a little bit spicy. Nice and simple golden ale. Unpretentious. Nice session

Drought at Taproom No 307. Hazy orange with large foamy white head, slight citrus aroma, sweetish taste with orange peel glavor, thin body, abrupt flat finish. To weak and watery for my taste.

Location: Sampled at TapNY, 4/26/14
Aroma: The nose is sweetish, some caramel, roast, and a little chocolate
Appearance: This one pours a murky dark brownish color with a medium brown head
Flavor: The flavor is similar, with roasted malt, some caramel, and chocolate sweetness
Palate: The body is medium, with a somewhat creamy mouthfeel, and an average carbonation
Overall Impression: I thought this was a pretty solid stout. This was my favorite of the Gun Hill beers that they were offering at the festival. I look forward to seeing how these guys progress.
