Bottle 33 cl. Pours an opaque black with no head. Aroma of sweet, dark fruit, fusel alcohol and glue (from a bad barrel). Rich, sweet, dark dried fruits -- completely flat though. The glue notes from the aroma are not as prominent in the flavor, but they are there. Roaring alcohol. 280226

T: sweet raisin & date, umami black olive, bitter fondant, touch of aniseed.

Interesting, somewhat peated and spicy. BA works well here, body is strong enough to carry it.

25 February 2026. At Slot Oostende, Goes. Shared with the lovely Anke!

A: hazy dark brown-black, small, foamy, beige head.
A: liquorice, aniseed, fondant, tobacco, raisin.
T: sweetish raisin, spicy liquorice, fondant.
F: earthy hopes, peat, some wry bitter clove, warming whisky alcohol.
P: medium body, slick texture, soft carbonation.
Odd taste, too spicy, like a Belgian stout of sorts, and too light to carry the BA treatment.

25 February 2026. At Slot Oostende, Goes. Shared with the lovely Anke!

A: clear amber, stable, frothy, off-white head.
A: toffee, candied plum, tobacco, green tea.
T: sweet plum & red apple, bitter tea, biscuit.
F: herbal hops, tea leaves, raisin, nuts, some tobacco, warming rum alcohol.

Lacks a bit of body and 'oomph' given the ABV and barrel blends.

Zwart bier met weinig schuim wat snel wegzakt. Smaak is warm, krachtig en bitterzoet met veel alcohol, wat chocolade, drop en een vleug rook. Helaas overheerst de alcohol iets te veel.

(Bottle) Dark brown colour, almost black, with brief foamy beige head. Roasted, malty, smoky nose with oak wood, Islay whisky, coffee, tar, peat, salmiac, dark bread, orange peel and soy sauce. Malty, roasted, smoky taste with notes of oak wood, Islay whisky, black coffee, liquorice/salmiac, dark bread, dark chocolate, tar, soy sauce and a balanced roasty bitterness in warming finish. Almost full body, quite sweet. Rich and powerful, with lots of tar, peat smoke and barrel character. Very nice.

Very good, a good substitute for a real Witbier
