Bottle sample @ LIBF’17, thanks to the RB-InBev Belgian crew for the share. Orange/cuivre, col fin beige.

Bottle @ home. Nice dark red brown color, average to medium sized beige head that lasts for a decent while. Aroma is malts, caramel, toffee, light diacetyl. Taste malts, caramel, diacetyl again, slightly sweet and a somewhat unpleasant bitterness. Decent to medium body, medium carbonation.

33cl Bottle from Lab-44. Not actually brewed under the Hoop name, and bottle has a Breugem cap (brewed on the same site). Clear golden orange colour, white head. Aroma is bready, malty, wort, sweet. Flavour is medium sweet, malty, bready, wort, light grassy, light yeasty, light bitter finish. Light bodied. Very basic in terms of beer, not sure if that was what they were after. As to style, it tastes like a malty German lager with less hops and an English ale yeast.

33cl Bottle at Lab-44. Clear copper amber-brown colour, off-white head. Aroma of caramel, burnt caramel, nuts, light spruce. Flavour is of a strong Belgian Amber, a tad less sweet, light malty, grass, hint of spruce, bitter finish. Light bodied. Decent, but not really exciting.

0.33 l bottle from ’marqt’ (Amsterdam), best before January 2019. Minimally hazy, golden yellow with a large, frothy, stable, white head. Sweetish, floral, fruity, grassy-spicy and yeasty aroma of lemongrass, pineapple, hay, ginger and some clove. A bit sweetish, slightly bitter, fruity-grassy, yeasty-spicy and slightly floral taste of lots of bergamot, lemongrass, ginger, hay and clove, followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, a little sourish, yeasty-spicy and quite dry finish. Medium body, slightly rather effervescent mouthfeel, lively carbonation. Quite nice, very refreshing, a bit unbalanced though as too much of that bergamot gives it a soapy touch.

Hazy pale golden colour, tall frothy white head, good retention, slowly receding into a cone shape, heavy lacing. Aroma malt, grain, citrus, grass. Taste medium sweet and bitter, hoppy, herbal notes, grassy. Sweetbitter aftertaste, herbal and grass notes, dry bitter finish. Light to medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Nicely hopped and tasty pilsner.
