Backlog from 2015/03/16. Backlog from 2015/08/01.

Dutch IPA conceived by five ladies who all have something to do with beer, made at Scheldebrouwerij by De Eem. Older bottle, just past its "best before" date which is never a good thing for an IPA, but I’ll take the risk. Lightly hazy, warm ’old gold’ colour under a creamy, sticky, dense and stable, egg-white head. Delicate aroma of fresh and fragrant, ’titillating’ lemon zest, grapefruit blossom, orange water, biscuit, mango, sweat, dried apricot, gooseberries, chicken curry, freshly cut nettles, earthy touch of cooked mushrooms but nothing unpleasant, though this was probably even more fragrant when young. Sweetish fruity onset, hints of peach, pineapple and passion fruit, surrounded by a sourish edge and a very light saltiness, fairly strong carbo tingling on the tongue, smooth and supple body, malt sweetishness with toasted accent, finishing in drying, spicy and still very aromatic hop bitterness, citrusy, peppery and achieving well for the intended style without stopping the malt sweetness to creep through, although the bitterness lasts longer, even paired with a slight saltiness as is the case in many ’genuinely’ American IPAs. Very elegant with some ’animalistic’, wild notes; the Citra has probably lost a lot of its lovely orange fragrance by now, but this still breathes an American IPA bouquet in all its lushness and ’tropical fruitiness’. Very well made, makes me curious to find more about these ladies. A beer with character and finesse at the same time - I wish more ladies were involved in beer if this is the result, but fortunately the craft beer movement is reaching a growing female audience nowadays, not just in the States, but - very gradually - in western Europe as well. I can only meet this with enthusiasm.
