Description
Based in the heart of the English Lake District, brewers of bold, innovative beers since 2002, our beer range is eclectic and includes thirst quenching session beers, big hopped pale ales, deep dark stouts and sours. With a range of core beers, available in Cask, Keg, Bottle and Can.
At Hawkshead Brewery we make the sort of beer we like to drink - distinctive, full of flavour, handmade, and perfectly crafted. We are small enough to know most of our customers, not to care about the mass market, be able to brew lots of different beers, experiment and innovate. We are big enough to employ a team of five brewers, make around 140 barrels (23,000 litres) of beer a week, deliver direct throughout The North, and our Tap at our Staveley site is open every day.
In about 2017, a controlling interest in the company was taken by Liverpool-based Halewood Wines & Spirits, and this may result in further expansion.

Mörk kopparfärgad och klar vätska. Kakig, brödig och karamellig arom. Lätt karamellig inledning som övergår till mera av en mjuk fruktkaka i smak. Något lätt blommig beska.

330ml bottle. Pours jet black with a medium head. Aroma is strong bitter coffee, some blackcurrant hop and cheap alcohol squeezing through. Taste is sweet to start with vanilla and coffee on the finish. Some blackcurrant hop on the aftertaste.

Can from Booths Supermarket, Media City. Mildy hazy golden-yellow with a thick frothy head. Hoppy nose, citrus hoppy taste, quite a big bitterness subduing the flavours of pineapple and grapefruit to an extent.

330ml bottle with the ABV now at 3.5%. Clear gold, small white head, nice carbonation. Aroma is malts, lemon, some tangerine, very clean. Taste is biscuit malts, citrus, again quite clean. Light bodied but refreshing. I think the 4% version would be better though, it lacks a little bite.

Over 8 years since it was bottled, let’s see what’s occurring (drunk after the 01 Jack version). Pours oily, deep brown, near black, with a distinct bourbon aroma. Tastes boozy, the bourbon being very prominent on top of a roasted malt backbone, with some smoked wood apparent. The mouthfeel is thickish, thin oil-like, and there’s a touch of dry bitterness in the finish. very similar to the 01 Jack version, not as mellow and a more pronounced bourbon character which for me loses it some marks
