Description
Based in the heart of the English Lake District, brewers of bold, innovative beers since 2002, our beer range is eclectic and includes thirst quenching session beers, big hopped pale ales, deep dark stouts and sours. With a range of core beers, available in Cask, Keg, Bottle and Can.

At Hawkshead Brewery we make the sort of beer we like to drink - distinctive, full of flavour, handmade, and perfectly crafted. We are small enough to know most of our customers, not to care about the mass market, be able to brew lots of different beers, experiment and innovate. We are big enough to employ a team of five brewers, make around 140 barrels (23,000 litres) of beer a week, deliver direct throughout The North, and our Tap at our Staveley site is open every day.

In about 2017, a controlling interest in the company was taken by Liverpool-based Halewood Wines & Spirits, and this may result in further expansion.

Bottle from Keelham Farm Shop, Skipton. Golden-blonde with a head. Steady helles, certainly flavoursome with a small lingering floralness.

375ml bottle from Spar Troutbeck Bridge, Windermere. Drunk at our pod behind the Brown Horse Inn, Winster. Promised myself I'd not drink another Hawkshead again but in the words of Doc Brown, what the hell. Pours a misty golden yellow, white head, gentle carb. Has the definite feel of a pitched mixed culture beer rather than a natural wild fermentation. Sweet, mellow acetic vinegar.. ok.

Bottle from Berry, Grape & Grain. Hazy ruby body with a few chunks floating around. No visible carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of cherry and oak. Flavour of sour cherry and raspberry. Thin to medium body with a slick texture. Soft fizz. Interesting and easy to drink but I expected a bit more.

Cask at Telford’s Warehouse, Chester (at 3.4%). Pours a pale straw with a small almost white head and good lacing. The aroma is yeasty with citrus and a hint of floral hops. In the mouth it starts off sweet and tangy before rapidly become quite bitter with citrus and grapefruit flavours. Later on floral hops come through as well, plus a hint of spice Finish is dry and quite sticky. It’s OK, but there isn’t really much to it.

Keg @ Victoria Tap, Manchester. Hazy darker amber with a head. Heavy textured red ale, minimal sourness despite the blurb. Quite good though.
