Bottle. Good hoppy nose to this golden beer with some citrus notes. Bit thin and unremarkable after that though. Doesn’t seem to know what it wants to be. Something like a hop slightly bitter finish.

Different from other bitters. Brown. Dominated by fruit and floral aromas and flavors. Much more complexity than most bitters. Very little bitterness.

Cask @ Old Toad. what a beer! a great english bitter. Zangy hop taste, with a wonderfully challenging bitter finish. I would drink this over most other beers on tap at my local english pub. Taste goes a little flat and dry, but that probably because im drinking it in america.

You takes your chances when you buy a beer in a clear bottle imported from England as far as I am concerned. Luckily in this case there was no real cause for worry. The beer is a dark amber color with a compact white head. Minimal lacing. The aroma is lightly floral and musty hops. Medium-bodied with tart hops and fruit flavors. Some malt and grain asserts itself later, making this beer not really that bitter after all. The finish is lingering hops with a strange mineral water character. Overall not as bad as I was expecting, but not a beer I would seek out again any time soon.

Light anmber beer with very light malts aroma, not very interesting. Nice dry malts flavour with a biscuity quality, and light citrus/grapefruits. Nice balnce of hops in aftertaste. Light to medium body.

Sampled at From The Vine monthly beer tasting Oct 13th, 2003: Rich amber color with a medium beige head. Quick lacing. Aroma of malt and caramel, along with a very faint skunkyness. Medium-bodied and kind of slick with equal parts sweet malt and hops. The finish is fairly dry with a hint of roasted malt. This beer never really asserts itself in any way.

Decent balance of bitterness and malty sweetness - respectable floral character - a tad watery at times, but finishes crisp, with some lingering grain flavors - I agree with most, this is "average."

Chestnut beer; slim, brownish head, fast gone. Nose with caramel/crystal malts, some hops, nutty, walnut oil, buttery even. Taste quite bittery, walnut peel, chicory, hopoil. Malt underneath gives no sweetness (what on earth is hopsweetness?). Slick, oily, rich mouthfeel. Long aftertaste that is more metallic bitter, though not excessively so. The bottle says 5.0% ABV. Difference between cask and bottled? This fits a little better with 'Strong Ale' classification anyway, as 4.4% - that's best bitter at most.

Bottled. An orange beer with a small disappearing head. The aroma is slight but with sweet notes. The flavor is lovely bitter with some flowery and spicy notes. It is brewed on an OK malt and has an OK bitternes, that lingers.
