Description
Looming large over Princess Parkway with its towering cylinders and chimneys belching steam, Manchester's Heineken brewery is one of the city's most recognisable landmarks. Beer has been brewed on the site since 1875, when it was known as the Albert Brewery. It was later sold to John Henry Lees, who changed its name to the Moss Side Brewery. In 1907 it was renamed the Royal Brewery in honour of King Edward VII. The brewery changed hands again in 1913 when Lees' company went into liquidation and it was later absorbed by another local brewery, Walker & Homfrays. The UK's first lager, Red Tower, was brewed here in 1927, named after the building's most striking feature. The brewery took its name too in 1933, becoming the Red Tower Lager Brewery. In 1955 the brewery became known as the Royal Moss Side Brewery and was bought by Scottish Brewers a few years later. After several more changes of ownership, Heineken took over the site in 2008. Today the main beers produced and packaged there are Foster's and Kronenbourg 1664.

[Bottled at Stockholm Beer Festival] Clear golden no head. Dustu nose. Sweet and orangey with clean mouthfeel. The lemonade hides some of Foster’s regular foulness, but it doesn’t help much.

Bottle at LCRBM 2, Kulminator, Antwerp, Belgium - Major thanks to duff ...
Golden, clear body. Dull soapy aroma. Flat, sweet flavour. Uninteresting and remarkable at a LCRBM.

LCRBM 2. And I actually watched Duff buy a four pack of this at Ashford Tesco. I should have stopped him. Gold with thin white head. Some citrus aroma. Some lemon. Some stickyness. Just odd and too artificial.

Can
Typical golden lager color and small foamy whte head. Weak fruity aroma. Quite pleasant but thin palate - sweet, bubblegum, malt. Not the worst of megabrew lagers because lacks any artifical side flavors. (4/2/5/3/8 2.2)
Re-rated, alc. 4.5% - brewed in Finland,. can (BB 05/2006)
Pale golden color, decent white head, lively carbonation. Sweet malty, corn aroma. Malty, slightly harsh finish. Malty aftertaste. Not so fruity than UK version I sampled before, maybe flavor is tuned to "Finnish taste". (3/2/4/2/7 1.8)
