Description
Maidstone has a long tradition of commercial brewing dating back to before 1650. At the beginning of the twentieth century there were still four independent brewers operating in the town, but by 1972 the last of these had been taken over and ceased production.

In 1983, after an interval of eleven years, Phil and Debbie Goacher opened their own brewery in the Loose valley thus reviving the art of brewing in the county town. However, in 1990, the need for expansion saw the plant moved to new industrial premises in darkest Tovil.

The modern brewing plant was purpose built and constructed along classical lines, allowing for full-mash brewing and open fermentation in stainless steel vessels. In addition, all Goacher's Ales are produced from 100% malted barley and whole Kentish hops without the addition of sugars or artificial colouring of any kind.

We believe that our commitment to excellence and traditional methods produces ales of distinction and character much sought after in this increasingly standardised world.

Cask by stillage at One Inn The Wood, Petts Wood on 15th February 2025. Clear copper with shallow off-white ring and spot lacing. Malty aroma. Nutty malts in-mouth with tangy fruits, and a finish of the same. Light bodied with a zingy mouthfeel.

Cask by stillage at One Inn The Wood, Petts Wood on 5th July 2024. Slightly hazy gold with shallow, off-white foam and full lacing. Earthy, pungent aroma. Grassy hoppiness in-mouth and throughout the finish. Late biscuit malts. Medium bodied with an engaging mouthfeel.

Cask by stillage at One Inn The Wood, Petts Wood on 5th July 2024. Clear amber with shallow foam and pattern lacing. Rich malty aroma. Pithy fruitiness in-mouth, and a finish of light berry fruits, and a few light hints of bitterness. Light bodied with a zingy mouthfeel.

Cask at The River Ale House, Greenwich. Burnt sienna coloured pour with a white head. Nose is red fruits, malts, toffee apple. Similar action in the taste. Malty & lightly hoppy finish. Good stuff.

Gravity cask at Pigs Ear '23, day two, 29/11/23. Almost clear golden blonde with an off white head. Nose is earthy, fusty, hedgerow, stewed fruits. Taste comprises biscuit, herb, straw, grains, dull fruit esters, toffee. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close. Decent flavoursome bitter.

Gravity cask at One Inn The Wood, Petts Wood on 29th September 2023. Clear amber with shallow whitish foam and full lacing. Aroma of pungent resins. Complex tangy fruits in-mouth and an explosion of savoury nuttiness - peanut. Malts and rich, ripe fruits dominate the finish, and a little bitterness develops on the upper rear mouth. Light bodied with a smooth mouthfeel.

Gravity cask at The Royston, Broadstairs, 17/03/23. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a beige cap that clears to the edge and spotting. Nose is dark malts, toffee, molasses, brown sugar dusting, sticky dates. Taste comprises fruit cake mix, treacle toffee, light spice, dark malts, figs, brown sugar dusting. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close with a light kiss of booze. Solid olde ale.
