Bottled. Black. Thick, malty and salty. Licorice and molasses are evident, as is coffee and grass. The mouthfeel is clean and as it’s very hoppy for the style it also has a very bitter finish. Lacks the soft mouthfeel of a world class beer.

Bottle Poured a clear dark ruby brown with creamy light tan head and very nice fine lacing. Aromas were of molassas, chocolate and grapes. Light hops notes and a well hidden alcohol smell. Flaovrs of boubon, oak barrels and lots of dark malts. Smooth creamy almost oily feel. Carbonation was soft and the finish was a bit astringent.

A huge creamy head formed while pouring this bomber of amber colored lager. The aroma was yeasty and malty with very little to no hop aroma. The flavor was sweet malt and has just enough hop bitterness hideing in there to balance this out nicely. Smooth, clean finish.

A hazy red-brown beer with a disappearing light brown head. The aroma is sweet and very spicy combined with notes of berries. The flavor is sweet malty with lots of berry and wood notes as well as hints of alcohol.

1 liter swing top, bottled in 2003. Dark opaque brown brew with a mocha head. Nice chocolate and caramel aroma. Smooth rich palate and a very nice balance of roast malt and caramel flavors. Alcohol is well hidden. This perhaps could use a bit more body, but it is a very fine Imperial Porter worth seeking out. One of the best commercial examples of the style.

1 Liter swing top bottled in 2004. This pours opaque black with an appropriately sized tan head. The aroma is malty with hints of dark fruits. The flavor is rich and full and a spicy smoky note makes this Doppelbock different from others I’ve had. I suppose I have been spoiled by drinking some outstanding homebrewed Doppelbocks which have all been superior to any commercial Doppelbock I’ve tried, but this is the best commercial brew of the style that I’ve had to date.

(Cask)Orange-amber, clear; no head. Citrussy hops, peppery, nutmeg aromas. Very hoppy taste, USA hops, sharpish at the end. Impression of gingerbread flavour. Light bodied. Long hard bitter aftertaste. Not bad, but a tad too harsh, not clean-tasting enough.
